Sup everyone....
Here is an email I sent to APS in Australia about their upcoming plenum and their response....
"Dear APS,
I know you have probably been bombarded with questions about your upcoming
plenum coming out this fall. If these questions have already been asked,
please bear with me and I apologize. Maybe post an update on your website
or a FAQ for us Z and G35 drivers.....?
1. Still scheduled for November release?
2. Will there be a G35 Coupe model or will the 350Z model fit the G35's
since they have the same VQ engine?
3. Will there be a Polished or Powder Coated plenum available at release?
( I would like one like these and would wait if those models are released
later as opposed to the one you have picutred on your website...)
4. I have hear rumors that you will undercut Crawford and Kinetix's
plenum prices by a couple hundred (rumored $300???) and not require
trade-in of stock plenum. Is this right too?
5. Are the plenum bolts going to be good quality? I'm sure you have read
in the forums about the Kinetix plenum cracking, the bolts for both the
Kinetix and the Crawford have snapped while driving despite proper torque
bolting.
6. Lastly and most importantly, how do I go about ordering one? Are you
taking pre-orders? The reason I ask is that I live in rural Hawaii and we
have absolutely no performance tuning or autoshops located on the island
where I live. I have to order everything online state-side and I think
they screw me by jacking up the shipping prices. I understand that
shipping to Hawaii is more expensive than UPS Ground w/in the states but
not to the extremes that some shops have charged me.....
Thank you for your time and patient consideration. I look forward hearing
from you and if you need a G35 COupe to test your plenum, I'd sure be
happy too!!!!!!!!"
GOTTA TRY RIGHT!?!?!?!?
Their response.....
"Thank you for your interest in APS product. Short answers to your queries
follow:
(1) Yes - for 350Z.
(2) No G35 work done as yet.
(3) No decision made as yet.
(4) Pricing not finalised. However it will certainly be outright, as it
is a completely new casting, not a re-work of the stock piece.
(5) The bolts would be the same metric grade as stock.
(6) Our guess is your most logical source would be one of the three
major stocking dealers in California (contact details on our website dealer
list).
Best regards,
David Inall

Why wouldn't it work for the G35 if it is already made for the Z? I know the Z has a STB, but we could still use this plenum, I'm sure. ?

Should work for the G and the Z. Same engine, easier fit (not strut bar to consider). My guess is that they have not even seen a G or opened the hood of a G.

kyle from strictlyz is going to retrofit an APS kit on a g35 coupe once the shipments come in.. it's not a direct bolt on for the coupe, as there are some changes that will need to be made..

like what changes? there are no changes required for the other ones, why would there be for the APS one? makes no sense to have to mod it. and the fact that it doesnt fit the stock 350z STB, it seems like it is actually inadvertantly made for the G's.

Does this person at APS realize that "our" G35 is actually a Skyline 350 GT? Do they sell a G35 in Australia? I know these sound like dumb questions, but the upper manifolds and throttle bodies should be the same on both the 350Z and the G35. The plenums should be interchangable.
Maybe someone with the right contacts with APS should clear up the G35/Skyline350GT thing and then ask the following question.
Does a 350Z have to remove the Strut Tower Bar to install the APS plenum? If not, I would think that the APS plenum would be very similar to stock. The slope would have to clear the STB thus causing air flow restrictions. Kinetix has a big dip and Crawford requires removal of the STB. Does APS also require removal of the STB???????????
That is the question.
The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

liu69: By "kit" are you referring to the APS Tall Boy Plenum or are you referring to the APS 350Z twin turbo kit? If you are talking about the turbo kit, then yes, that would make sense about retrofitting it to make it fit a G35 since the kit was designed for a 350Z. If it's the plenum you are referring to then that would be strange.

i beleve the APS does require you to change the STB on the 350Z. we G35's are "lucky...i guess" to not have a STB. **hahaha, lucky my ***...i wish i had a STB**

About the G35/350GT confusion - check out Nissan Australia's lineup.
Those poor aussies don't even get a Skyline, and as far as I know, Infiniti is only in the US, so it's not there as a G either.
This would explain why they don't know if the tallboy will work - is it possible they've never seen a G/Skyline?
Also, check out the Maxima. Looks like a cross between the Q45 and Altima.
