Help replacing front oxygen sensor

My G coupe recently has thrown a code for Bank 1 Sensor 1 and I need to replace my front oxygen sensor. I have the replacemen sensor and need to change it.

What have you used in the past to change it? Is there enough room to use a oxygen sensor socket that covers the entire unit or do you need to use an offset socket go attack from the bottom?

Any experiences and tricks would definitely help out this G noob. Thanks in advance.

Well, my first question is did either of you do any testing to see if it was actually the sensor that went? Or are you just doing the parts shotgun at it and see what works. Anyway, I think there is room for a o2 sensor socket from what I remember. It's been awhile since I've been under that part of the car.

I removed mine using a O2 sensor socket I think. If you have to I think you can get a open ended wrench on it also.

What are the methods used to test this? I have experience with cars just never had to deal much with O2 sensors.

I still need to get this out. Is there enough room to get an openend wrench or do I need to get a pivoting one? I have looked on just about every O2 sensor thread.

Thanks for the input and keep it coming - pictures would be awesome too!

You can use an open ended wrench and I believe there is enough room for the O2 socket. Its been a while.

Do you just replace the o2 sensor or do you need to replace the wiring connected to it also? Does anyone recommend a sensor from Advance Auto Parts, or go with the OEM. Mine just went out!

Doesn't matter...if you buy OEM you will pay $150+ for it. If you buy a generic from Autozone/Checker/etc then you will pay less for the same part but may have to splice the wires in.

I prefer paying $53/per and splicing. Not worth the extra $75-150 for the OEM connector.

Try me first!

Ok well I was helping my neighbor with his 03 altima and the guy at O'Reillys recommended that we just use some electronics cleaner and a wire brush on the O2 sensor....we did this and so far his CEL still isn't on! Now I've got to do this to mine

Been searching and can't find any info I bought two Bosch 15730 oxygen sensors to replace the two upstream sensors off the headers on a 04 g35 coupe. Wire colors are the same on stock connector and sensor pig tail: 1 black, 1 grey, 2 white. I butt connected them together and still getting cel. Anyone know the correct color wire diagram for the stock 02 sensor connector? What color for the heater, signal, ground wires?

just a question did you reset the ecu to make the cel go away first and then try it?
