Tach not sweeping smooth...buying a G35

Hi all, I've been lurking around for a while and this board has more than solidified my decision to go with a G35 as my next ride.

I began my search a few weeks ago and test drove this 2006 IP G35X yesterday (dealer's pics from their site), 48k miles and looks to be in great shape for a good price.

The only thing that concerned me--something I've not seen in any other G35 I've driven--was that the tach did not sweep up and down in a smooth, linear manner. It was slightly jittery (stuttery) in its operation, whether revving in Neutral or while driving. It would move at ~50rpm intervals. The motor itself felt like it revved freely and smoothly with no issues.

I was ready to seal the deal but am now waiting for the dealer to look into it. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Not a big deal if its a faulty gauge cluster (although that seems strange for a 2006), but always the possibility of something more serious, I imagine. Hopefully everything goes well and I'll be making my "New G35 owner" post soon with my own pics :crosses fingers:

*Just noticed the "General Tech Questions" forum. Please move if that's where it belongs, my apologizes & thanks in advance, still getting used to this place!

My friends base model rev up 06 6MT 350z does that.. I guess the car revs really fast or something? But his tach is extremely jittery and jumpy

Something was up with that car. I kept looking (and never ran across this tach issue again) and ultimately found my baby this past weekend:
