Highly Strange and Unexpected Engine Issue

I popped my hood the other day to find a lot of the components there covered with rust. The cables look good, clean, and the car drives fantastically, but all this rust...especially considering the car only has 23k on it, is strange. When I bought it two months ago, the dealer inspected the car, stated that there is some rust on the bottom, but that was it. I'm sure they popped the hood, but considering they didn't mention anything, I am not sure what to think. The car came from Florida and is currently residing with me in Houston. The car has a clean record and still has 2 months under warranty.

Any thoughts?

I wanna blame Florida.

It's a freaking sweat box out there....................Gotta love the ladies on a beach tho.

I think that your humidity levels are much better in TX than in FL so you should not be getting any more rust. But what you got there will stay unless you decide to clean it up and all.

I wholeheartedly agree; the ladies on the beach are an irreplaceable sight...closest beach to me is in Galveston, and the water is brown.

What should I use to remove the rust and try to safeguard from it? WD-40?

By the way, the car is an '06.

when was it made in 06?

You might still have a little bit of warranty left over.

Take it to your dealer and tell them that is has rusted to **** and you want a new one. See what they say.

SRSLY tho. Talk to the dealer......they might do something.

Don't you dare blame FL... I'll kill you!

Actually, on topic, where at in FL? I'm inland a bit (Tallahassee) and rust isn't much of a problem here, but I've seen cars that stay on the beach in Panama City turn to rust-buckets in no time. Salt air FTL

Maybe the previous owner decided to hose the entire engine bay down to clean it. Or this car was a flood recovery vehicle.

Or, maybe it's just VQ quality.

I got 05 VQ with 87k miles on it with no rust what so ever.

I doubt VQ is the blame here.

I am in Canada and mine looks similar - with that said, we have salt, hot / cold, humid, s&*tty weather...

I think mine looks great then, in comparison

that looks like salt corrosion.. maybe it was parked next to the beach all the time and waves splashed over every couple days.. My 05 was a NY car and is an Ohio car now and there is less rust..and trust me, the salt **** they use here corrodes everything

Probably sat near the beach + salt water spray = corrosion.

Probably not a flood car if the carfax is clean. That is if it's a documented flood car.

If the water got that high, then basicly the entire enterior was flooded also. Check under the dash. If you see the same type of corrosion, I'd be worried.
