Timing Chain (I think) Rattle lasts for a good 5-6 Minutes Need Help!
I have an 05 6MT Coupe. It's not even really cold yet, and I have the infamous chain rattle, but unlike everything I have found in the forums, mine lasts for at least 5-6 minutes on a 60 degree day. I have had the car for a little over a year now and it didn't make the rattle when I got it. It has continually gotten worse over the past few months. I took it to the dealer, and they said that it was a common, normal issue, and that it was the result of not driving the car all the time. Now I admit, since I am an airline pilot the car would sit for 2-3 days at a time, but I recently got laid off, and am now driving the car for an average of about 1 hr. a day and it hasn't gotten better! Does anyone have any suggestions?
P.S. It's still under warranty.
Thanks

could be a tensioner that is loosening up?? Not sure...but I know the timing chain being noisier than most people like isn't abnormal.
what oil are you using? might be time for an oil change. Check oil level if you haven't.
Hopefully you're using a good synthetic.

Thanks for the reply!
The oil level is full, I am using dealer stock oil, just changed a month ago, only 800 miles on this oil change. Do you think the dealer will take care of the tensioner if that turns out to be the issue, I'm still under the extended warranty from when I bought the car.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
Went to the Dealer
So the noise started to last 16 minutes just last week, so I took the car to the dealer. They said it was the timing chain, tensioner, and the timing chain guides. Thanks for the help.
Oh yeah
Oh yeah, not a single cent paid, they said it was the biggest repair the've done in 6 months, the timing chain, the tensioners, the chain guides, the cover, and they had to clean some buildup out.
