Last weekend I took my G35 out on a 4-lane divided highway, on a stretch that had no traffic, no exits, and --at the time-- no cops. I punched it, and was instantly rewarded with a surge of acceleration... 80...90...100....110.....120....125mph...

...The car seemed to hesitate just for a moment, enough to make me think the car might be topping out at 130 mph, but just then, the transmission shifted from 4th gear into 5th gear, and the car lept forward with a renewed surge of acceleration. I was so surprised, I took my foot out of it and slowed it back down to 65 mph.

Jeez! I thought the car had already shifted into 5th gear, but it was still in 4th gear at about 130 mph! I bet the car can easily bury the needle @ 160 mph+... Anybody know for sure?

(I know it was dangerous, I could have been killed, I could have hit an animal or debris, I could have blown a tire, etc.)

Ive raced a bmw (model unknown) and slowed down at 125Mph.. it was pretty sweet.. i think it could go faster but i havent pushed it any faster... really curious what really is the max speed and when does the governor kick in?!?

Ran mine flat out the other night.....live in NJ and there is a long stretch on 95 that runs parallel to the runway at Newark International....can't tell how fast I was going, but I did pass a 737 on take-off. Maybe 175?

The next thing I knew, I heard my Bose kick on and heard this commanding voice "G35 heavy, vector to heading 190, climb to 5000.

Geezzz....I got scared and slowed down....oh by the way, I was in reverse.....Idiot

Are they electronically limited to their respective top-speeds, or do they run up to red-line in 5th gear?

i was told by two dealers that there are NO speed govenors electronically or anything... havent tested it yet, kidna afriad but its glad to hear.

Somebody a while back on this or F/A had his Sedan up to 154 MPH (indicated) but doesn't everyone get excited for doing something dumb? I don't imagine any of these guys are stupid enough to not be very discreet and careful when they're in 'takeoff mode'.! Gsedanman, Garnet Fire Sedan

 

I was driving from Tucson to Phoenix this morning and I got up to 120+, but didnt take it any further. I didnt see what RPM I was at, but I dont think it was at 4 .5 yet. It was fun, but I dont know when I will do that again

Road and Track states that the governer kicks in at 155, I haven't even had mine over 110, I am a wuss.

 

I think it's more healthy (for everybody) being a wuss SalTNutz , mine hasn't seen over 100 and may not. I'll leave the fast driving to better (test) drivers on a track.
But it sure gives me a buzz knowing that she'll 'perform'! and that there's some truth to what the speedo says.That's rare!
