Painting stock plenum?
Painting stock plenum?
Has anyone painted their stock plenum cover? I swapped my engine cover for the Z cover (had to modify it slightly to clear the crank driven fan on he sedan). The original cover had to foam stops on the bottom that have left permenant marks on the plenum cover. Wanted to see if anyone had painted the plenum cover.
Thanks

Thanks

I'm actually about to do that this week. TCFOOL, what paint did you use on your plenum and on your intake tube. I'm going to use Plastkolor engine enamel primer and engine enamel flat black.

Re: Painting stock plenum?
wow, i'm in the process of trying to remove my plenum. I got everything done except those screws on the actuator. I went out and bought a new allen wrench and it still won't come loose. So I have no idea whether or not I'm going to scrap the project or not.

Noooooooooooo! Don't remove it just take a little time and use masking tape and newpaper and seal it off and then spray it... it won't go anywhere if you seal off the area well...

Re: Painting stock plenum?
Check your local paint or automotive paint store/supplier. For interior plastic panels there is a specific paint that is absorbed into the plastic. No flaking, chipping, etc. Good stuff. If your paint store can't put it into an aerosol can for you, you can buy the cheap, aerosol-can based modeler's airbrush kit from Wal-Mart for really cheap. This paint is really thin and is perfect for an airbrush.
The best part is that you can have a small batch (cost me $15 for a small can, plenty to do this job) whipped up in whatever custom color, as long as you have a sample to scan. I used a plastic screw head cover from a screw on my dash when I wanted to match my boost guage A-pillar pod. Definately worth a trip to the paint store!
I wanted to add: This paint will leave plastic looking like plastic, so if you want a glossy enamel finish then you'll need to use something else.
