lol, sometimes on here, people will post pics of the turbo builds and such and still be running OEM filter.

I always comment on that when I see it lol.

I dont think its fair the judge a filter by what its made of. The only was to prove that its not as good as another filter would be to get a UOA and compare the results.

Let me re-phrase that. I know the FI guys swear by the OEM filter because it performs better than any other brand filter. They know this by UOA testing.

I just started using the Amsoil Ea filter on my work truck. It's good for 25,000 miles and after looking at the YouTube vid of the inside, I know why.

It's good for 25k or 1 year if it's not severe duty. And you have to use Amsoil oil.

Thats how they get your to buy more of their suff...

Even if it says 25,00 miles/one year I would never run it that long I would still change it with every oil change.

K&N has been great for me

No. Amsoil is one of the few oils that have long oil change interval capability. Even then, only some of their line can do this.

Even then, your engine has to be in pretty good working order to do this. ie.. not using a drop of oil, running very tight/clean etc...

I never heard of a 25k filter though. Traditionally, even in the past suggested people to change the oil filter every 5k or so. Then keep monitoring the oil though the use of UOAs.

Then again, keeping buying UOAs at $18 a pop is the cost of 5 more quarts of new oil.

UOA isn't a filter test... it may indicate a bad filter but it isn't going to always tell you that filter A is better than filter B... too many other variables such as engine wear, running conditions, engine build issues, oil time and type, ect ect....

OEM oil filters used to be good. But I think they went to China or something to build them now. I'd go with Napa Gold/Wix / Mobil 1, K&N, Amsoil for your oil filter needs.

Hello,
I am the technical manager for FRAM filters. Thanks for your interest in our products.
The FRAM Tough Guard filter is an excellent choice for your vehicle. It is 99% single pass efficient, meaning it removes 99% of dirt in the 10-20 micron size the first time the oil goes through the filter. It features a cellulose/synthetic glass blend media and can trap and hold dirt for up to 7500 miles. It also has a silicone antidrainback valve for long term flexibility. There is a stainless steel screen over the bypass valve just in case it is left on the car too long.

Many will speak about us using fiber end caps and relating them to being a low quality filter. Nothing could be further from the truth. Honda, Subaru, Bentley, AC Delco all use this technology very successfully. The end cap on a filter is not a structural element of the filter, it is there to seal the ends of the filter media. Toyota now uses nothing but glue to seal the ends of their media. Our competitors have made an industry of cutting open our filters and theris and pointing out we have fiber end caps and they have steel, this is because they do not want to go head to head and compare which filter is better at filtering dirt from the oil.

The guys cutting open filters on the net are the same way, they never test how good a filter is at removing dirt from the oil, just offer opinions and tribal knowledge. FRAM stands behind its products 100% and has over 75 years experience making oil filters. I can answer any filtration questions you may have at Jay.Buckley@Honeywell.com

Where is the part that tests the filters ability to remove dirt from the oil?
