One time I used regular, the navigation lady argued w/ me via bluetooth.

"Un-f_ckin'-believable Randy, I bet you used premium for those ****** before me"

That's my joke for today. Use the good stuff if you can afford it IMHO.

91+ recommended.

If you use 87, you may not get optimum performance.

I tried 87 ONCE. I detected pinging. In cold weather I use 89 with no problem. As the weather warms above 50F I will be using 91+. The intake temp has to have some affect on octane needed.

If you are the type that insists on goin' on the cheap at the gas pump, why not drive an Altima?

its not about being cheap, its using the right gas

would you use super unleaded in a Kia Rio? or would you cheap out and use regular?

If regular is all it needs, then regular is all I would use.

93 octane is not better or superior to 87. In fact, in terms of energy expended during combustion...87 is in fact the superior gasoline here. But unfortunately, a lot of people follow the belief that if it cost more, it must be better....and a lot of people have the attitude that if you care about your car at all...you run "the good stuff".

But just like you said, it's about using the correct grade gas recommended by the manufacturer based on compression, fuel and timing curves.

Actually I think the manual is not defined, and therfore clear. It recomends, and not requires. Requires as in the coupe would be clear.... I generally run 87, but understand I get on the highway and burn a tank of gas top to bottom in a day, no heavy throttle etc. Just cruising @ 75-80mph. If I were driving around town, on and off the gas with some decent acceloration then I will run premium......

I still don't understand this.... If it recommends premium... use premium. Everyone knows that higher octane fuel is more efficient in a high compression motor. Plus, the car runs sluggish and worse fuel economy on the cheaper stuff... Premium fuel wont HURT the car... so why not spend the extra 3-4 dollars just to take the best care of your car possible?

I agree with the poster above. I've been using at least 91 octane since the first day I bought it back on March of 'o3.
