I was trying to install Z-tube and K&N filter . In my first step i broke a screw which tightens the engine cover. Is there anways that I can get it fixed?

 

Either drill is out, or use an easy out. It's not a big problem.

If you ask me if I've ever broken a bolt on my Coupe while working under the hood, I'd have to answer yes. It just took time to get the darn thing out, and go to the hardware store for a new bolt. I drilled mine out using successfully larger bits until I reached the threads, then I blew out the residue from the old bolt, and used the new one as a tap and chaser.

Here's what you do. Go to Home Depot and buy an "Easy Out" drill bit set. You need to know the size of the screw, so take the other screw (the one you didn't break) with you to Home Depot. Ask a sales person to show you where they keep their easy outs and he'll give you the right size.

Read the instructions on the box and follow them. This will allow you to remove the broken screw from your car.

Don't forget to buy another screw at Home Depot while you are there to replace the broken stock screw. There is a chance that you'll have to buy the screw from Infiniti, or you could take a photo of it and maybe I could send you one of mine.

How long does it take for you guys to take out the screw? Yesterday I found that my engine cover screw is broken too. So I bought the screw retractor from Home Depot. And I've spent half an hour to drill on the screw.....and nothing really happening....[img]/w3timages/icons/frown.gif[/img]
