I recently built a little heat shield under the intake tube to try and reflect some of the heat my headers are making. I built this using some the old plenum gasket and wrapped it a few times with 'reflect-a-cool' an aluminized reflection adhesive foil.
I tried to seal the area off as best as I could without getting to it to touch the actual engine as much as possible. Its still touching the coolant line, the valve cover and a little bare engine metal, and its not touching the header or even that close to it. Does anyone have any adverse experiences with doing this???????

The foil claims 400 degree Celsius direct contact and 2000 degrees continuous protection from heat.

^^^ I used some really expensive gold foil (supposedly the most reflective for thermal treatment) - I think it was about $20 per square foot - I put $60 worth on bottom of Z tube, MAF housing and back side of air box...

Was a waste... took it off within a month and did a bunch of other stuff instead. Lot's of dedicated track cars use it though (for various things)... so I guess it depends on how bad your under-hood temps are (mine were really bad).

Thats the stuff Tony Nazzal (riverside) used on the underside of his car. It pricey stuff.

Any good heat tape is pricy. The stuff I used was like $20 a roll for 20ft x 1.5"
