Idling at 800 and CEL after DIY's

I just did the Irriduim spark plug change and decided to do a throttle body cleaning as well. First of all it sucked to find out that both of my rear spark plugs were filled with oil. That may be the least of my problems though. I didn't disconnect the throttle body Harness. I reconnected the battery before cleaning the throttle body. I even had the stereo on. Now I'm getting an increase in idle. I don't think it's supposed to be hovering around 800? So i tried giving it a couple revs in the drive way and boom, i get a check engine light. I can't think of anything i've done wrong.

Did you move the butterfly when you were cleaning your TB?

If you did you might have to do a relearn

Of course i moved the butterfly, I had to. I thought if you don't disconnect the harness you'll be alright? Damnit. Is there an easy way to do this relearn? I have an 03 G35.

i cleaned mine too with a carb spray cleaner, and wiped off the nasty stuff around the plate. so yeah, basically the plate moved several times. unfortunately i got a rough/high idle after re-installing it. i tried the three procedures to reset the throttle body but didnt have any luck. anyone have a tip on performing these?

A. Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning Procedure.
1. Make sure that the accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
3. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
4. Turn ignition switch “ON” and wait at least 2 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds (how would you know if you get it right?)

B. Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning
1. Make sure that accelerator pedal is fully released.
2. Turn ignition switch is “ON”.
3. Turn ignition switch is “OFF” wait at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the throttle valve moves during above 10 seconds by confirming the operating sound (i never get this right because i never heard anything)

C. Idle Air Volume Learning (Throttle Position Learning)
It's best to time with a watch/clock.
1. Perform “Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning”.
2. Perform “Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning”.
3. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
4. Turn ignition switch “OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds.
5. Conform that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
6. Repeat the following (steps 7a, 7b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
7a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD)
7b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
8. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 20 seconds until the Check Engine Light (CEL) stops
blinking and turned ON.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the CEL is ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
11 Wait 20 seconds
12Rev up the engine two or three times and make sure the idle speed and ignition timing are within the specifications. (this is fine because SES light lets you know if you did it right the way it blinks)

SOUNDS EASY!!! =(

^Go to a mechanic shop that has a Consult II

My friends shop has it and he lets me use it and it's much better than those instructions
but when you don't have access to things like then instructions you posted is what you have to do.

If your friendly with a shop that has it hit them off with a $20-$30 and they will get it done.

"C" Is the important one.

I had to do mine twice for it to work.

Your light (check engine) is not going to go away after you do it but your idle RMP will drop. Drive the car after that and light will go away.

I did this several thousand miles ago. I had a friend at NISSAN who hooked it up to the CONSULT II and couldn't get the ecu to relearn idle air volume. I had performed it some 20 times without success. I had to buy a new throttle body.
