And for the 10w-30, I just wanted to see how it would do. Next oil change will be using Castrol Edge 10w-30 and after that, it will be German Castrol.

Any opinions on 0w-40 or 5w-40 Mobil 1?

 

Just trying to see what's best for the engine.

 

hmm 10w30 didnt help? I think your plan of changing the brand is a good idea, but really, dont get your hopes up.

 

I really think before you start relying on changing viscosity/brands... get your top end/rings inspected my friend. I would hate to see this motor pop because this issue was put off. These engines can go much longer than 151k.. I'm sittin' pretty at 154k and burn harrdly anything between oil changes. It sounds dumb... but on your next change... try some SLICK 50 or ZMAX... those cut my consumption to 0 when I purchased my ride

 

with 151000 miles you can expect to use SOME oil. I think you can reduce that somewhat depending on how bad your valve stem seals are...try this. With the oil you have in now ADD one quart of RISLONE. drive approximately 500 miles and change OIL to 15W40.
The thinking is here I have experienced STUCK oil control rings.when this happens the ring no longer moves in an out to conform with cylinder wall.these are the ones that scrape off excess oil from cylinder walls...AND starting many years ago in order to make CAFE regs Mfg starting using very little spring tension on this ring in order to reduce friction. This only increases gas mileage an infintesimal amount but one needs to realize that when you are selling some 800000 cars a year any penalty from CAFE just adds to the base price of new vehicle. In most cases if your rings are stuck from gunk, burned carbon etc. the Rislone will help to a degree...its cheap, just try it.

 

Thanks man. I may consider 10w-40 for summer and see how it does. Would you recommend any oil additives?

I know this is an older post but I've been experiencing oil burning / consumption as well. I've got a rev up and have read the tsb and the dealer is working with me but can only go so far considering my warranty is an extended one not through Infiniti. I've had a compression test done and that all came back positive. All cylinders were above 190 and had 5-6% leak down. I've changed the pcv thinking that was it even though the cara only got 50k miles on it. It still continues to burn oil. I've changed to 10w30 , added Lucas oil stab and one that goes in the fuel system to condition seals inside the motor. A couple people have suggested I use sea foam in the crank case. Any suggestions as to that or something I've missed that can be replaced out ? I've ordered some Ferrea vition valve stem oil seals new jwt springs. Has anyone heard of valve stem oils seals failing and causing consumption ?

 

Forget the Lucas stuff

You can try seafoam in the crankcase but don't bet on it doing anything.

Since you are burning change to a conventional like GTX 10W30 no reason to burn the expensive stuff.

I had oil burning 1 quart 500 miles which slowed to a 1/4 quart every 1000 miles but then I was rear ended and got totaled so I never found out if it solved it after the first change or slowed it down more.

Some people here have had that happen to them so I was trying it.

 

I'm not using anything expensive. I've been putting in penzoil 5w30. What are the probabilities it's the valve oil seals ? Cause I have some unusual sounds when the car is at low rpms in gear. My buddy said its the valves and take everything off and tell Infiniti to search there and let me know of the findings. If its not covered I have to pay for it.
