weapon-r catch can failed
Hi all,
I thought I'd pass along my experience with the weapon-r catch can... I bought the one that is custom made for the G35, I installed it on my car and although it fit well and looked great, it completely failed within the first week... the welds broke on the joints so I sealed it up temporarily with some silicone while I contacted weapon-r to discuss the warranty.
Within a day the can was collapsing under the vacuum of the engine (which is likely the reason the welds broke in the first place), I have it installed between the PCV valve and the intake manifold. After a couple of weeks on the car, most of it being partially sealed up with silicone, the can is severely collapsed and starting to bend in the middle.
After lots of reading it appears this is not a unique problem for weapon-r catch cans installed this way (on several types of cars). The can is apparently not built strongly enough to withstand a full vacuum.
Weapon-r is asking me to ship the can back to them so they can replace it, but from what I have read on the internet that will be a futile effort that just costs me money for shipping, and no real satisfaction because the replacement products typically fail in the same manner.
So... my weapon-r catch can is being tossed in the trashcan and I've learned my lesson. Hopefully I can prevent someone else from suffering the same fate.
Any suggestions on the "best" catch can that will mount easily in a stock 2005 coupe engine compartment?

NRG and Greddy are both excellent choices. I have the NRG but did have to replace the cheap hoses that came with the can. Braided vacuum lines are a very capable replacement.

So what is the purpose of these? Are they completely necessary? Noob questions, I guess. What do you do with the oil once it's caught? I mean, does it have a path back to the sump or a drain valve on the can to extract it?
