Dyno test left me wondering...
Hey guys,
Saturday at Slow Motion here in Columbus I got dyno'd and it put down 239. A stock 6MT G put down 247 while I was there.
239 is with JWT pop/z tube, mrev2, and copper iso thermal spacer.
Friday, the day before, I got the mrev2 and TB spacer installed and put about 150 miles on the car prior to the meet.
Possible issues?
1. After speaking with some people, they said that since I don't have an exhaust it could be causing low HP numbers (wider input with bottlenecked output)
2. PCU needs more time to reprogram to the new mrev/spacer
3. Intake has high heat soak and should consider a CAI from a company like Injen
I have my motordyne shockwave v2 system coming this week and I have some fast intentions res. test pipes ready to install on the car. Once those are on the car I'll be saving up for a tune.
What do you guys think? I already own an uprev license and will be looking at a tune in the coming months.

any CAI will give u heat soak with the VQ engine. Our cars do not run well with CAI's. The best intake if the factory because they come pre tuned perfectly. The best set up (well, at least in my opinion) is the 2006 rev up airbox and Ztube. It has proven best numbers on the dyno..
Im lucky to have jumped on the rev up air box. Now i just got to get a Ztube and oil-less filter (dry flow). Id stick with dry flow so that none of the oils get on the air sensor and screw up the computer ratios.
Once you get your exhaust and pipes you should defiantly unleash some power! Esp since your replacing the most restrictive part of the G35, its cats.
Hope this helped.

^Because most intakes let in a lot of hot air from the engine compartment. And hot air reduces engine performance.
The dyno testing shown here shows the effect of hot air in ~20'F increments.
A CAI without its heat shield will ingest air @ ~150'F.

Hey Tony, I'm standing by waiting for my shockwave v2 this week
So Tony, would you recommend going back to the oem airbox and using a ztube or purchasing an injen CAI that goes down into the front bumper (have to remove bumper to install it)
I feel like the jim wolf popcharger I installed is sitting way too close to the engine and is not helping my performance.

Not all CAI are bad. You just need to lock out the heat soak. This can be done with a proper box (some have good heat shielding) and some other measures. Look into "Heat Shield Tape."
Stock airbox is good because it blocks heat. Do the same thing with an aftermarket filter element and you can improve on the design. If you don't block the heat out then more air isn't benefitting you at all because of heat soak.

Otherwise, if you can modify the heat shield on your pop charger in the manner Tollboothwilly suggests above, it can work.
Back in 2004 I did the same thing with my stillen intake. I even made some posts describing how I did it.

My preference is for the stock intake with regularly changed, clean, paper filters. On this engine, they flow the same as a aftermarket intake but don't let in the heat.

Tony, any comments regarding the current Import Tuner article making gains with a CAI? I see they mentioned you name in the article.
