Where Did The Oil Go?

So, my engine starts making this ticking noise. Then my check engine light comes on. Then my oil light comes on. I go to the dealership, and in short, they tell me there's about 1 quart of oil in the car. I had my oil changed about 5,000 miles ago. There is no leak, and I don't smell oil burning. So how 4 quarts of oil is gone is a mystery. They did a flush, oil change, and told me to come back in 1000 miles so they can check the oil level. Anyone want to take a stab at this one?

youre having oil consumption issues. I went through that last year in december. I noticed a hazyness coming out of the exhaust at night when someone was behind me. it wasnt noticable during the day until my problem got worse. At its peak i was burning 3.5 quarts of oil every 100 miles! the dealership requested my oil service records and after reviewing them, they put a new motor in. Dont go back in 1000 miles... as soon as youre down 1.5 quarts go back in. the last thing you want is them to negate your claim becuase they are blaming the damage to your negligence.

Oil consumption issues - great. They did say they will replace the engine if necesary under the warranty. I'll go back before the 1,000 miles.

I see you have just 16 post, so you are a newb at this. There are many threads here on oil consumption. There is a TSB on it from Infiniti.

Here is the main post on oil consumption:

Far from a newb. Been on more sites and put up more posts than one could imagine. Sometimes it's just easier to ask.

Sure it is, let someone else do the work for you. If your are an old hand at this, it would have taken about a minute to find what you wanted. Just lazy I guess. :\

Everyone - thanks for the information. Much appreciated. Next time I'll do a search, as to not offend anyone with hundreds of posts.
