04 G35 slower than expected

I bought an 04 G35 a month ago to replace a 600hp Corvette. As you would expect it feels pretty slow but I'm wondering if it is too slow. My wife's automatic 3.5 Altima coupe feels considerably faster. The G35 has 70k miles and the air filter is clean. Anyone had to change plugs or wires this early? Anything else I should be checking? The original owner appeared to be VERY meticulous as there was a 12 page service history for mainly squeeks and wind noise as well as one time he brought it because the compass didn't respond quick enough at high speeds. That guy will be pissed if he traded it for an American car.

If you're coming from a 600hp Vette, ANYTHING will be slow. As far as feeling slower than a 3.5 altima coupe, I guess its because the G is heavier. Have all the fluids been changed yet?

I drove an 03/04 G35 with 116k miles about three months ago. To be honest, it was NOTICEABLY slower than my car. I raced an Altima coupe at the strip once, and I beat him, but he was VERY close. It had a couple mods. I ran a 14.2x, and he ran a 14.3x. There are people on here only trapping 93 in the 1/4, and I don't understand why some G35s are so slow... However, for you, all of them must be slow :-)

Have you reset the ECU? Is it a 6MT or a 5AT?

Mine's the 6 speed. As far as fluids the oil and transmission fluid were changed. No leaks anywhere and everything is topped off. I'll probably do plugs and a fuel filter. The ecu reset is worth a try too.

I apparently hadn't checked the air filter because you couldn't even see light when you hold it up. I'll pick up a replacement tomorrow and see what happens. I didn't buy it to go fast but expected to be comparable with the altima which even has the CVT transmission.

My wifes '07 Sedan destroys my '05 5AT Coupe straight line, it isn't even funny. I got her in the corners but not straight line. Coming from a 600hp Vette though, yea I would imagine the coupe would feel heavy and sluggish. I guess it's all relative though, hell I thought my '93 300zx had a little more grunt than my coupe when I got it.

Hmmm, you should feel quicker than the CVT. Is yours a coupe or sedan?

My car was the same. I did an ECU reset and it was a night and day difference. It was way more responsive as a whole. You should try it. Only takes about two minutes. I posted a thread about it. Good luck.

Mine is a coupe. The k&n filter was packed with dirt though so I'm swapping it out and will change the plugs with the iridiums tonight. I'll look for the thread on the ecu reset and do that as well. Thanks for all the input.

IMO, K&N filters suck. Just get a basic drop-in for now.

Are you planning on modding it?

No negatives regarding K&N for me. When you clean it, just make sure it isn't over oiled.
