DIY: "Cold" Air Intake

Learned a lot from this forum. So wanted to give back to the community. I didnt invent this, the concept and idea was already out there on the threads. I just wrote a DIY for people to see.

Although our intake boxes are open the hood actually closes most of the openings. This is just to improve the stock box. Dont expect significant gains, as this mod will give only minor gains, if any. It will just help open up some more free air. Here's my Rev-up airbox with Z-tube and "Cold" air mod.

1. The basic parts I bought. An Auto Vac hose, Drill bit, and pipe cap. Oh also some black spray paint and Clear since I didnt have any. Best $25 I spent.

2. Remove

3. Remove

4. Loosen or Remove

5. Cut here. Be careful.

6. How it should look.

7. Cut here. Be careful

8. Cut slowly.

9. It should be perfect. Nice and tight, and wont fall off.

10. Thread the hose through.

11. Thread the other end of the hose to the stock air box.

12. It never rains in socal but I bought a cap for those who live in Rainy areas.

13. Perfect time to clean your dirty Air filter.

14. Paint the white ring to black.

15. Also paint the cap if your gonna use it.

16. Finished product. Perfectly hidden.

Like I said, this is only to supplement your stock box. I have no proof of its gains, nor will I do anything try to prove its performance. This is only a DIY.

The only thing I can report from my butt dyno, is at high speeds it pulls harder. My exhaust sounds a bit louder and I "think" its faster. But then anything must help if it opens up more air. I hope the DIY helps. Its not a hard mod. If anyone needs help, I will do the install for anyone for $15 which includes supplies.

But mostly notice before I installed the grille back on, I closed the hood and could feel sucking pressure from the hose. All that matters for me, haha even if it doesnt work.

UPDATE:

Pictures with the funnel. The funnel helps so much. Its a pretty easy and great mod.

When to a local auto store, bought the liter funnel. Pulled the vacuum hose out. Threaded the funnel on the hose and installed the hose back into the car.

Nice write up Henry!
Might be more efficient with larger tubing and a funneled end to catch more air via the grill.

I am in the market for these OEM Parts!

^ Yea the biggest problem was finding larger tubing. I couldnt find a larger flexible vacuum hose. That was the largest I found.

Hey Henry theoretically if you drilled a bigger hole behind the grill wouldn't that suffice to bring in more air? or is the hose really necessary? anyway great job bro!

^ Yea i technically it would work. But i was trying to prevent heat soak. The hose allows more direct "cold" air, where just having a bigger hole would combine the cold and engine air together. But what I need is a funnel like Jayk was saying. Need something to catch more air.

^ Over 300 n/a is really an acomplishment. I remember when people used to say it wasnt possible with just Bolt ons. Way to prove them wrong.

I just added a funnel today.

i would keep the same size tubing and just get a funnel that you can attatch to it. and then have the tunnel mounted to the support. that way it will atleast have the funnel on the front of it.

great mod though. i would do the same if i didnt just order a fujita intake
