VDC off...all the way off???
As many of you know, in my quest for 13s I have fiddled with numerous ways to shut the VDC off...all the way off, and after some quick testing with the fuse out (Thanks Guys who know who they are) it seems to work better than just activating the toggle switch (Thanks to my350Z.com) b/c the car seemed to really take off rather than still bog...these results were informal and not with my drag radials, but nonetheless they were promising.
Then....
I read, in C&D yesterday, how C&D figured out that on the new Mercedes there is a code (much like the unlimited lives for Nintendo's Super Contra lol) that puts the car into Dyno Test mode and shuts 100% of the VDC/TCS, etc off...
The new Vettes do this too by simply holding the TCS switch in for a mere 5 seconds...then the car is in competition mode.
I know we have a few Infinti Techs on here...is there a way for us to do this with our G35s so no toggle switches or fuses need to be pulled?

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
When I turn off my VDC with the switch, I can do donuts all day long in a wet parking lot. My rev limiter is still operational however...which isn't controlled by the VDC. The fact that I can do endless donuts tells me that when I flick the switch, VDC is completely disabled.

Protcav...while that's funny, I already covered that joke in my post referring to Super Contra!
Catafish, all of us can do donuts in the rain, but what I am referring to is brake torqueing the engine and not having it bog...two seperate things.
As Ted said...can anyone answer us...with serious info???

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
How does VDC affect brake torqueing? Maybe it's some other ecu programming for the AT.
On a 6MT there doesn't seem to be much VDC at all when it's off. As a few of us can attest. Neff.
My dealer did tell me the 5 sec thing works for us too.
Did you try it?

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
DED,
Your dealer is blowing smoke up your can...That does not work on the G35. I tried that long ago...b/f I even knew about this board b/c you need to do a trick like that to turn of DRLs on GM products, but unfortunately not for us G35 drivers.
With a 6MT this is not an issue at all...Zero...You guys have to learn to feather/slip the clutch on track take offs and I still feel that when someone does that they will break into the 13's with as little as a Z-Tube and CAI.
For a 5AT, what happens is this...you come up to the staging tree, trip the lights, get set to go and bring up the engine revs...if the revs come up to "X" RPMS (Which I don't know what that magic number is) the Yaw Rate/Side G-Sensor (Dave help me here) may be coming into play via algorhythms that detect what will turn into slippage...so the car backs off a ton of power, IE, fuel, timing, whatever...and the car bogs...and then as you take off...under perfect traction...and the revs hit about 2750 the car turns into an animal and it's like the turbo just spooled up, abeit a small turbo, but nonetheless it's a nice feeling all the way until the 3rd gear shift comes and then it becomse boring again.
BUT...if I could get the car to launch at say 3500 with Drag Radials and no bog...I think I would see a 1.9-2.0 60' time which means 13.7-13.9 1,320' later!

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
The 5-second trick does not work. I wish! Coming from BMWs ... that was the first thing I tried.
What it does do is disabling the VDC off capability completely if you hold it down long enough (> 10 sec.) ... interpreting it as a stuck button (a common fail-safe system).

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
it's called brake torque stall, and with VDC on it occurs at around 2200 rpm.
this is one of the 4 functions of the VDC system that I know of...restricting brake torque stall.
the other three are:
* traction control
* "active" abs
* brake LSD
all of whichk, if you think about it, are part of the "VDC" system.
With the fuse pulled you can:
* raise brake torque stall to around 2600-3000 RPM. To get it higher, you would need to rebuild the torque converter (a waste of money for burnouts and NO other benefit). In my opinion, this may actually be bad for your 1/4 mile times.
* disable "active" abs. you will still have "passive" abs, i/e the brakes will still "pulse" to prevent lock-up.
* disable brake LSD
I persoanlly have been driving with the fuse pulled for about 7-9 months now. I do however have full coilvers and adjustable sway bars. The combo of the 2 allow me to adjust my stiffness as needed and leaves the rest to the DRIVER...not the car's semi-accurate prediction.

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
iLLG35,
If you'll remove your battery cover you'll find a fuse box just in front of the battery. The cover indicates which fuse/fusable link feeds which components. The VDC is powered by the red 50 amp shown here.

Re: VDC off...all the way off???
Ahhhh, howcome i dont remember seeing anything like that in my car LOL!!!!! Thanks DaveO..
"Active abs disabled:
Does this mean abs will not work in concert with the VDC to control slipping/spinning-ie when cornering BUT abs will still work when I hit the brakes to avoid some A-hole that cut me off? "
I would love to know the same ?, i wouldnt do it if it had no ABS at all!
