You need to hang out with some "car guys" and learn how to do maintenance yourself. Buy a jack/jackstands and get dirty, you might even make ramps yourself out of 2X4s find out what the rest of the world does for fun....

^^ Truth...feels great to look after your G yourself, and it's not difficult at all.

I mean I'm usually pretty handy and I can figure out anything if I tried...but my dad just keeping highly recommend me not trying to do it myself bc of the risk...he wanted me to pay 70 and just get it done at goodyear. Yea I hang out with a few car guys I'm sure they could do it...my best friend worked at goodyear and mr best wrench so he knows how to do all of it

Get your friend to show you how to change your own oil without any risk so your Dad will quit holding you back and stop worrying. No I totally disagree even when using synthetic, oil changes should be done every 4K to 4500 miles. Quite a few members here have zero respect for what they drive and how it runs....sadly!

In theory, conventional oil will last for ~5k miles, synthetic (depending on type) lasts between 7500-9k miles...i'd still recomend changing synthetic every 4-5k miles.

the 3k mile change recomendation was intended for older cars (mid 80's if i remember right, might be even older), oil companies still recomend the 3k mile change to make more of a profit since everyone grew up with the "change your oil every 3k miles" theory. As oils advance in their technology and materials used you can go longer and longer without changing your oil. i believe the vehicle owners manual will support this...otherwise there's a few engine building books that support this theory

on another note: learn how to do it yourself. There's no better feeling than looking at your car while washing your hands knowing you are the reason the car is still on the road.

^It also depends on how you drive your car. I know I need to change my oil every 3k miles with the way I drive if I want my car to last anyway.

If you go synthetic, depending on your driving style you could get up to 7000 miles, if not more on your oil. Best thing to do is to run a good synthetic, change the oil at 5k miles and send the oil out for analysis. That will give you a good indication how much life you have in your oil. At that point, you can adjust accordingly.

Doesn't matter what anyone says, including myself. The oil analysis will give the facts, in black and white.

For what it's worth, I run Castrol Syntec 0w-30 in my G and Mobil 1 0w-20 in my wife's Odyssey.

As for changing oil, check out this thread:

https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...end-diy-4.html

You'll see my wife's Odyssey on ramps I built and yes, I'm a DIYer.

Excellent, Penzzoil Platinum which is what I am guessing you got, it very good in the VQ. Make sure you got 5 quarts!

I change my synthetic every 4000 miles. Used Royal Purple for the first 20k miles now I'm using Pennzoil Platinum, currently sitting at around 24k. Been working out well for me so far, no oil consumption yet knock on wood.

I also change my synthetic oil every 4k miles, 30 bucks is nothing every 5-6 months that I change it. $15 isn't bad to have it done. It's super easy to do it, but it's annoying for me since I have to drive up on blocks of wood just to be able to squeeze my jack under my sideskirts lol. And then there's the 50 million screws holding the undertray.

Isn't Castrol the best?

To the OP, I think your dad is a little to protective.
