TIming Chain Clatter When Cold??
TIming Chain Clatter When Cold??
I'v noticed that when I go to start my car and it hasn't been run in awhile, it will make a quick clatter then go away. My theory is that the oil on the timing chain isn't circulated yet so the chain is clattering before the oil gets up there.
That sound about right to anyone? Or does anyone else experience that same clatter at start up?? Is it something that can be fixed? Or just there?

OEM Nissan filter is a fram filter. Its anti drain valve sucks and its probably not working on your filter. so the pump needs to refill the filter plus get oil flowing up there. Reason # 53046 why fram filters suck
Ive had this problem MANY times almost everyday in the AM. I changed to a K&N oil filter and I havent had the problem since. Even the Mobil one filter did it to me occasionally.
Also the k&n has the 1'' bolt top for easy off

Is the Nissan filter really made by fram? If so there is the reason. I had rattle issues on startup on other cars I used fram on.
I use a purolator pure one on my g35...one of the better oil filters out there

I don't know for sure if it's made by fram... but I have heard that it SUUUUUUUCKS.

I know right, I told him when he was down here :P
Yep, Cardboard endcaps and hard plastic valve which leaks....
K&N, M1, Wix, Purolaotr, and Bosch are all good.
K&N and M1 are made by the exact same company, and I believe they are almost identical inside.

The rubber anti-drainback valve seals the rough metal backplate to the cardboard end cap. In practice these seem to leak, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan. If you use this filter and have a noisy valve train at startup, the filter is likely the cause. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak when they should be closed.
Meh, next oil change I'll buy something different and hand it to them lol
I don't change my own oil. I just take it in and go "use synthetic", hand them the keys, then go wait in the waiting room or look over the new Infiniti products LOL
