Re: Is this Legal in CA???

Looks like it satisfies the orange turn indicator (reflective) requirement.

And it is not an "off" color like red, green or blue - so i don't think they could give you crap about that.

I would say it is legal, but that may not stop an overzealous officer from ticketing you.

Looks like it's set up to light up blue-white when the signal lights are not blinking. If that's true, you'd likely get pulled over for having a non-amber marker. It might work if you reversed the wiring to have the amber LEDs as the marker light and blink blue-white.

i think it was gurgen who told me that you can have white markers that are always on, as long as the only ones that blink are amber. is that right? gurgen?

I may have it backwards then. I bow to Gurgen's expertise.

Well, you have to have amber blinking lights (which you do), expt. in indiana were they can be white. What I would do if you don't mind is have the lights always white and blink amber. That way they can't say you have flashing blue lights....

I don't see a problem:

Turn Signal Lamps

24953. (a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light visible to the rear.

(b) Side-mounted turn signal lamps projecting a flashing amber light to either side may be used to supplement the front and rear turn signals. Side-mounted turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the center of the vehicle may project a flashing red light no part of which shall be visible from the front.

(c) In addition to any required turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps mounted to the rear of the rearmost portion of the driver's seat in its rearmost position.

(d) In addition to any required or authorized turn signal lamps, any vehicle may be equipped with supplemental rear turn signal lamps that are mounted on, or are an integral portion of, the outside rearview mirrors, so long as the lamps flash simultaneously with the rear turn signal lamps, the light emitted from the lamps is projected only to the rear of the vehicle and is not visible to the driver under normal operating conditions, except for a visual indicator designed to allow monitoring of lamp operation, and the lamps do not project a glaring light.

The flashing white may be a bit ricey, but undoubtedly, flashing sidemarkers are a good safety feature. It'd look better if it flashed amber/orange or something. Where and how much? Is it "Plug and Play"?

Re: Is this Legal in CA???

How lame... the lights aren't even blinking in a synchronized fahsion. They should at least have wired them to blink in at the same time.

Re: Is this Legal in CA???

eh well who cares if they are ricey..(yes i think they are too haha) but i suppose it just depends on where you live. i mean if you live in a big metro area i dont see any problems unless the cop REALLY has nothing better to do.

i live in san francisco and they have better things to do like harass people who are peeing on the street in public or something haha.

cool idea, how'd you do it? id like to do something like that with the stock ones if possible =)

Re: Is this Legal in CA???

thanks guys for the input. i am trying to decide whether to have them blink this way, or to have the whites always on and have the ambers blink.

this could be considered rice, but come on, this has a real usefulness to it. its not some useless wiper-spray light. I consider rice to be like putting on a giant wing on a FWD car or putting type-R stickers on your Si. or even worse, having sponser stickers from sponsers that dont sponser you.

Re: Is this Legal in CA???

Our definitions of RICE differ. As far as legality goes, the side markers must reflect amber in CA. So technically clear corners are illegal.

Re: Is this Legal in CA???

Most people interpret the turn signal law incorrectly. What it really means is that looking from the front of the car, the turn signal can be white or amber. Looking from the side, the turn signal can only be amber. Almost all car manufactures use turn signals that are visible from both the front and the side and that's why they are always amber and not white. The only colors allowed to be visible on the side of the car are amber (near the front) and red (near the rear).

Your setup flashes both white and amber so technically it would be legal if you just got rid of the flashing white.

Whether or not you'll get pulled over for it is hard to say.
