G35 meets Dynojet

G35 meets Dynojet
I made a few pulls in my 2003 automatic on the dyno this morning. The first two runs were attempted in third but the tranny downshifted both times and gave us false numbers. A fourth gear pull worked fine:

As you can see, the results are very close to Nissan's power figures when the 15% driveline loss is figured in. This was a baseline test for the car. Now it's time to extract more power!
I'll be bracket racing it this weekend and I'll let you know how it ran on Monday.

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
If this is a stock, unmodified G35 sedan, and if it was a Dynojet brand chassis dyno, that's very impressive. My G35 on a Dynojet did about 213 hp and about 207 lb ft torque. HP is roughly as expected given 18% driveline losses, my torque was a little low. Several other G35 sedans have also dyno'd around 213/213. If your car is a stock sedan, you're indeed lucky.

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
Thats a strong stock dyno. You estimated 15% loss, I think on an auto it would be more like 18-20%. By that estimate, you are making almost 270hp and ~280tq at the crank. Wow, I would be interested to know how many miles on the odo, and what was your breakin procedure, now thats a factory freak.

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
It's a totally stock 2003 sedan with an automatic tranny. It has 2500 miles on it and it has been driven hard since day one. Several people over the years associated with vehicle manufacturing have told me to break motors aggressively so I usually follow their advice. Our race motors for our drag Talon go from the engine stand to the dyno where we hit them with a 150+ nitrous shot on the second pull .
We have a few parts to try next week and I just received an e-mail from the R&D department @ Unorthodox Racing. They should have an underdrive pulley available soon.

TurbotrixRacing,
Those are better numbers than the others I saw...
Did you put anything in your car, like a filter or anything?
Those numbers are higher than normal..

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
That's totally stock. We tried a pipe kit and filter but actually lost 2hp an 10 ft/lbs. It was something we just threw on for a pull but took it off. It was a universal pipe that was just too big for the car. I have that graph if you are interested. On the next session, I'll be trying a drop-in filter, a cone filter, and a complete pipe and filter kit. We also have a Blitz SUS kit to try.

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
Hi jeff;
what is the production date of your sedan? I have a suspicion that some of the earlier sedans were tuned slightly different from the factory. On the Fresch alloys site, you here them saying that your numbers are that of the coupe or the Z. From my vast knowledge of that 3.5 litre engine (I am being sarcastic), there is little or NO difference in the engine between the coupe, sedan and Z other than playing with the exhaust systems.
Anyway, let me know what was your build date and I completely agree with you on the breakin period, drive it from day one the way you are going to drive it every day!
Have a great day;

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
The more I read, the more I think that maybe the sedan has about 280 HP. Your dyno indicates that number, and the results of the 0-60 times in the rag reviews supports this as well.
Or, maybe Infiniti just uses bigger horses.![Wink](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Re: G35 meets Dynojet
I doubt Infiniti would lie about it having LESS horsepower. Ford did the reverse on the Mustang Cobra a few years back and got nailed for it.
However, if you assume a 25% horsepower loss due to drivetrain, that puts you at 281hp. But RWD cars transfer power to drive wheels more efficiently. The loss is "around" 15% (depending on the drivetrain efficiency). Assuming 15% yields about 260hp.
