Idle and Stalling problems after mrev installation

I recently purchased a Crawford plenum and mrev2 and began installaytion a few days ago. Two of the throttle body screws were stripped, so I took the whole upper plenum off with throttle body attahced (i.e. unplugged it....I guess mistake one). I still couldnt get the screws off so I said forget it.

Yesterday I went to install just the mrev 2. Installed just fine. Actually was pretty easy. I had a little problem with getting the holes all lined up on the upper plenum but I eventually got it. I put everything back together and did the relearn steps listed here http://www.technosquareinc.com/350reset.htm. I did this since I unplugged the throttle body.

Started it up and got a ridiculous idle and stalling. I rechecked all my work (i.e. removed upper plenum Leaving throttle body connected this time), checked vacuum lines, etc.

Did the relearn again.

Same thing.

When I first start the car the idle jumps to like 5K (almost like I was intentionally revving it..which I wasnt).

Then it drops down to about 1K, feels shaky and the drops even more to around 200. It will almost stall (battery light comes on), then catch, then eventually stall.

I havent tried driving because I dont want to get stuck somewhere (would that even help)?

Did I miss something?

Sorry for the trouble, wish I could help but it's hard without being by the car. After putting a spacer on mine, it will idle high before going back to normal. Let it run for a while to see what it will do. Good luck

Make sure the rubber ring around the oil fill neck isnt pinched between the upper and lower plenum.

Check.

I literallly triple checked everything. No loose vacuums. Everything is tightened down. All electrical connections are secure.

I think I am just going to take it to Nissan. Just sucks because the closest Infiniti is like 90 miles away AND whatever it cost is going to be nearly double since I am in England and have to pay in pounds

My guess is there's definitely a vacuum leak somewhere. I know you have mentioned that you have checked everything, but as far as I know, if the engine doesn't hold it's idle that means there's a vacuum leak SOMEWHERE.

I know when I installed my spacer I just forgot one of the vacuum lines and did what you are describing except it didn't jump to 5,000rpms as far as I can recall. But it'd drop and catch for a sec, sound really crappy, and then die.

It would be a lot cheaper to remove everything and reinstall it again. I'm certain you've got a signficant vacuum leak somewhere.

vacuum leak

something isn't connected. Like Dave said - remove it all and reinstall. You'll find something wrong along the way. I'm sure of it.

UPDATE:

Installed Crawford upper plenum. I think I missed a bolt or two in the back during install so that might have been my stalling issue. Now it doesnt stall, but I have a rough idle. It will almost stall, then catch and go back to around 1K. Car feels rough too....

I did the relearn procedures....maybe I am just not doing it properly?

Did you use any carb cleaner spray cause that can help pinpoint the vac leak location.

UPDATE for anyone who might search and have the same problem.

The gasket between the crawford plenum and the mrev wasnt seated properly. I had a really rough idle but no stalling. After a few days I also had what I would say was a whistling sound. Sounded awful. I ordered another gasket, but I am in the UK so it takes awhile (unless I want to get raped with UK prices...I paid $25 on ebay. With the conversion rate and UK pricing, that same gasket would have been $165). In the meantime I used some RTV inconjunction with my old gasket and it works for now.

Yeah, your original symptoms sound exactly like a vacuum leak. I hope it all works out. How did you bolt down the upper plenum/lower plenum? Did you use the criss-cross type pattern (per Motordyne instructions), or did you just tighten your way from one end to the other? Did you tighten to the necessary inch-lbs spec?

Maybe you should try dipping the gasket in oil and reinstalling it. It'll help create a good seal.

I followed the instructions and used the criss cross pattern. I just think it was the gasket. Mine doesnt lay flat anymore. and it would constantly move when I was trying to line up the upper plenum to tighten it down. I could hear a whistling sound coming from the plenum in the exact location my gasket is "bent" (for lack of a better word) when I did get it on. So the RTV and my crap gasket are okay for now. I will do it all AGAIN when my new gasket gets here.

In the meantime I must say the sound is amazing!!! I can definitely feel a difference with the mrev and plenum combo when driving too. Well worth the money and headache
