P0011 Camshaft sensor code + low oil indicator

Hi all,

Help me diagnose a problem with my G35 2003, 110K miles on it:

Aproximately 4000 miles after an oil change:
- the engine become noisy
- check engine light comes on with code p0011 - camshaft position sensor
- oil pressure light comes on momentarily when braking

All the problems go away completely after an oil change (happened twice already).
Before the last oil change the shop noticed low oil level, the car had 4.4 quarts left.

My theory is that the car burns oil a little bit due to high mileage, and when the oil gets low the camshaft does not get enough lubrication and the P0011 code comes on. Does it make sense or am I full of it?

thanks!

Crazy, I am just above 4k on oil and have the SAME EXACT symptoms. Cleared the code yesterday and it came back.....oil light when braking hard. Changing oil today. Fingers crossed.

I had the same problem. Took it to the dealer, they said the bank 1 cam sensor was bad and changed it for $240.00. Problem solved.

The p0021 sensor is actually a solenoid. There are 2 of them. One on each side. Drivers side is right next to the oil dipstick. They are something like $160 each from the dealer. I took mine out to check it because I have the p0021 code also but it looked fine. Guess I am just gonna wait until I have the money to replace them. BTW it takes maybe 5 mins each side if that to remove them.

tsb says replace both cam sensors and crankshaft sensor when one is replaced, all 3 might take 30 mins to replace.

Interesting... Well I got everything for an oil change but is cold here today so I just topped off my oil as the light was coming on, car running perfectly. Cleared the codes and SES hasn't come back yet...
