UT CF Filter Component to Z-Tube any good?

UT CF Filter Component to Z-Tube any good?

i am becoming more n more interested in U/Ts CF z-tube and filter. the CF looks hot. I am for sure gonna purchase the z-tube, but as far as the filter goes i am not sure. Does anyone have any input on the filter? Is it worth the extra $70?!?! Will the filter void the warranty? Maintenance on filter....etc. THANKS FELLAS

hey,

i just installed the UT "Z" tube and the filter. I think the cone shaped filter would give more hp and its far less restrictive than stock i can tell you that. FIlter void the warranty. Hum,.....worst comes to worst take it off when u take it into service if u have something wrong with your car but as far as i can tell intakes won't do any damage. I love the whole look. If you just have the "z" tube i don't think it will look that great.

Maintenance on filter is really easy. You just take a K&N recharge kit and follow those instructions. will take you 30 min to do and let it dry over night!

Ed. What do you notice sound-wise? It's quieter than the most CAIs or the Pop-Charger I'm assuming. How about relative to stock?

What have you noticed in your butt-dyno, epecially at the low end? Many report better response with the stock set-up at the low end than with the P-C, CAI installs.

Could you post some detailed pics of the small breather filter and how it's attached?

Hey,

I wouldn';t really say its quieter than most CAIs because its just a straight pipe like the Z tube and any of the tubes that attach from the Throttle body to the intake. Its plain piping. The tone at high end is noticeably different. The low end is quieter than CAi tho. At high end outside of my car(b/c i got my friend to drive it) it sounds like a RACE CAR!! vroom vroom

It although does not have the little hiss that the pop charger givs tho. Thats the only down side to this intake.

Butt dyno? hehehe i feel more low end. Like the instantaneous power that i get when i get on it.

I still have to attach the breather better. Its not tied down. Its just clamed down . think of as then z tube hooking up to the MAF. its about the same thing. I haven't had time because my car was in the shop... what shop? Stereo shop. I'll post some pics after saturday!

I installed this intake over the weekend.

The filter that it comes with is a very small K&N-like cotton
gauze filter. It is a V-cone shape that fits inside the CF
heat shield. It can be cleaned/oiled just like a K&N.

You must use the breather filter that comes with the kit,
because the CF pipe does not have a hole for the rubber
line to hook up to.

I had to make my own mounting bracket, because I could
not figure out how to use the one that came with the kit
(there was no instructions).

There is a slight whistle sound when you initially get on
the gas. You can just barely hear it if you listen carefully.
Otherwise, there isn't much of a change in tone in the low
end. When you rev it up close to redline, you can definately
tell a change in tone (it gets much louder, with a hollow
sound). It reminds me the CAI sound on my friend's Hondas
hitting VTEC.

I didn't feel any power gain. If I tried really hard, I could feel
maybe a little more power at the top, close to redline. I don't
think you can really feel 5hp gain anyways. Perhaps some of
you have more sensitive butt-dyno's than me (I'm used to
turbo cars, where I could gain 10-15hp just by tightening up
a screw).

Is it worth it? I think so. It's a compromise between CAI
and just having a Z-tube. You won't be ingesting any water
with this setup, there will also be less filter cleaning needed
compared to CAI. With the K&N-style intake filter, the
engine should breathe easier than the stock paper filter.

As for how effective the CF is at blocking the heat, I'm not
sure. After a quick drive, the pipe and CF heat shield were
both hot. Sticking my hand inside the heat shield, it also
felt hot. I guess the question is, is the filter LESS hot than
the POPcharger setup (with aluminum heatshield)?
