Engine squeal under hard(er) accelerating
I've been getting an annoying squeal coming from the engine while accelerating. The squeal happens the most after getting up to around 2800-3000 rpms until around 4500ish. However it only "squeals" when you are just cruising and mash the pedal down (think passing maneuver at highway speeds).
I recently changed both belts as checked the tension. The motor seems to make the noise almost always when its in gear (driving), however I can seldom get the engine to make the noise just sitting in neutral and revving. Anything I should check out? I assume its a pulley or bearing, however there are several so are there any common pulleys/bearings that should be replaced?
I just hit 40,000 miles, 2003 6MT Coupe with Brembos.

I think most of the issues have been addressed (engine mounts-- huh? Do engine mounts squel? ). In an older car I had the same issue and found that over time, grease and dirt had gotten on the belts and then the pulley and wheels. I washed the engine out at a car wash---- carefully of course. Whatever you do, avoid using those belt cleaners since they are dirt and grease magnets.
The squel was gone.
Just another option.

Uh...these cars don't have an automatic tensioner pulley so it is not that.
Its possible that your idler pulley is going out. To check it you can loosen your belts so you can spin the pulley by hand with nothing touching. If it smooth spinning you are ok. If you can hear noise you probably have a bad pulley. You can compare the AC vs the main belt idler pulleys to test and make sure they are the same.
