I see that there is a 28 HP increase for the 2005 6-MT. Does anyone know how they achieved the gain? Is there a new ECU program we can load on 03/04 to catch-up?

 

Actually it is a gain of 38hp -- published hp for 2005 6MT is 298hp.

If you go over posts from more than 2 months ago, much was speculated with some confirmed improvements giving the added hp.

In a nutshell -- it will take more than a ECU reprogram/reflash

its 18hp...from 280 to 298 in the coupe.

 

The power comes from an updated ecu and new exhaust cams. So theoretically, you could make more power through exhaust mods on the new 6mt.

NO NO NO It's 48 to the left front wheel and a whopping 58 to the left rear wheel. There is no more power going to the right wheels at all. Infiniti decided to make all 05's left wheel drive because most tracks in Japan travel clockwise. To combat understeer on left turns, only the brakes on the left fully engage when turning left. There is also now a new 150 hp power steering motor to make the car more responsive when turning.

"...the 5-speed automatic transmission raises passions to a whole new level with 280 HP. As does the 6-speed manual with 298 HP (late availability)."

According to my math that is an increase of 38hp -- but maybe it's metric hp... or hp measured atop of Mt. Fuji.

Does the SEDAN 6MT come with 298HP, or is that only the coupe 6MT? I thought it was only the coupe 6MT.

Yes, the '05 sedan 6MT will come with 298 hp due to the new variable valve exhaust timing, strengthend internals, and reprogrammed ECU maps.

For clarity, there were many right answers but mixing apples and oranges:

2004 6mt Sedan to jump up to a 2005 6mt Sedan, the difference is 38 hp from 260 to 298hp.

For the 6mt coupe the jump is 18 hp from 280 to 298.

Just need to specify which car we're talking about.

04, TB/W, Nav, Aero, 6MT, etc...

 

so the consensus is, if i see a 2005 sedan 6MT on the road, and we race, he's got less weight now AND 18 more hp that me?. basically a 5AT coupe will get spanked by a new 6mt sedan. that about right?
