06 Coupe 6MT - Clutch and Flywheel are going out

I took my 06 Coupe 6MT (55K miles) to the dealership as I was having issues. Diganosed as a bad clutch and they couldn't verify the flywheel beacuse they haven't dropped the transmission yet.

However, they quoted me $2500 if it needs both or $1100 for clutch only. This is way more than I am willing to pay for this as I have buddies who can do it for me. However, OEM costs at NAPA are $549 for an OEM Clutch and $685 for an OEM flywheel.

I was told that you cannot resurface the G35 Flywheel and I would have to buy new. It sounded like they were taking me for a $1200 ride as the explanation seemed very weak to me.

Would it be prudent to look into aftermarket options as they are likely cheaper than OEM and are there any that would be good to look at?

Thanks in advance, this sucks .

that sounds a little pricey...most shops around here charge 250-500 to swap a clutch...probably closer to the 250 range on a g35 since it is rwd...

I just got off the phone with the dealership and for parts only it was $596.74+ tax for the clutch kit and then the flywheel was $1190 or so + tax.

I will search the vendors, if I have to put in a new clutch and pay $600 at worst I can buy an aftermarket one and get some benefit out of it.

why not just get aftermarket everything? most (every one that i have encountered) flywheels are resurface-able.

They don't have it apart already, they said they couldn't give me the status of the flywheel until they do take it apart. I told them to hold off.

The local clutch place said that they couldn't resurface the OEM flywheel because it was 'Dualmass' I don't know what that means, but they are reputable around here and I trust them.

Thank you for the links, I'm gonna look through them and figure it out, I cannot get it done until next Saturday though, so I have some time to look.

Yeah, can't (shouldn't) resurface a dualmass flywheel.

http://www.z1motorsports.com/350_g35...oducts_id=2405

z1 motorsports clutch and flywheel combo, $659 + your local install = <$1000

And that has a new pilot bushing, throw out bearing and braided line

I'm looking at picking up the Nismo Flywheel for the 'just in case' my flywheel is bad.

The one on the site (linked below) says Application: 2003-06 350Z™ Coupe and Roadster (does not apply to 300HP engine). I own the G35 with the 297HP engine.

http://www.nissanusa.com/nismo/perfo...10-RSZ30US.jsp

Which one should I be looking for?
