Best Intake

So which one is the best intake? How come there is a exhaust section but no intake section? N-E-Ways...

- HP gain?
- Sound?
- Looks?

Anyone with results?

its because its been discussed to death. its a matter of personal preference. sound, performance, looks, pricing - whats your priority?

Re: Best Intake

this is a tricky one to field. i hate giving advice on such a broad and "controversial" subject. it's not controversial because of the issue of whether or not it's safe to install (i.e. crank pulley ... dead horse), but there is conflicting results of whether or not a cold air intake actually produces additional hp.
it's been stated about a few hundred times that the stock air box is a pretty good design, but more importantly the stock maf sensor is programmed to read the stock box, rather than the aftermarket intakes. there is even a debate (backed up with some dyno's) that some cold air intakes actually reduce hp (only a couple).
so now that you're looking for looks or sound, that kind of narrows things down to your preference.
if you like the "throaty" sound -
z-tube w/jwt popcharger is popular and inexpensive.
if you prefer the look and the "throaty" sound cold air intakes -injen - the first aftermarket cold air intake (the only issues i have seen on forums is when the filter is oiled excessively and coats the maf sensor, causing the cel, and possibly other issues related to running lean/rich.
aem - offers a universal bypass valve to prevent water ingestion in case of intake submersion (i have not tested this)
nismo - identical to aem design (the name may or may not carry warranty if installed by someone your dealer trusts)
there a few more out there - weapon-r, blitz intake (no tube), unlimited tuning (i'm looking into that one). i don't know enough about all of them.
i like the cold air intake look and sound - and wanted the piece of mind of protecting against the 1% chance of water ingestion, so i went with the aem w/bypass. everything purchased and installed ran me $320.
these are just my opinions. not to be taken as fact.
i hope this helps.

Re: Best Intake

The stock intake is the best. NO one has proven otherwise.

Re: Best Intake

g4me - agreed. i was trying to point out that not only is there no gain to be had, but there is more information supporting that an aftermarket intake actually reduces hp. i had a feeling that the original poster understood the aesthetic results, not just the performance (or lack of).

Re: Best Intake

I'll second that. Don't do a damn thing to the intake box. Just drop a K/N in there and get a Z-Tube. The stock box is so good already, it is tough to improve upon as far as flow. If you just want a shiny CAI for looks, then go ahead, but dont expect any performance gain. In fact, look for a loss. I fooled around with intakes, plenums etc. and they suck. You will lose lowend torque. My experience has been that the K/N & tube combo works best for an AT sedan.

Grow up. We don't need those kinds of childish comments here. If you would of took the time to do a little research you would of found plenty of info on this forum about every available intake.

Re: Best Intake

Skyline2005,

If you hope to have a snowballs chance in hell of hanging out here for awhile, you'd better spend some time reading the forum rules...

Rule #7. Before posting, use the search function. We have been online since May 02 and over 10,000 members and most likely that topic has been posted. Any repeated post will be locked without notice.

Rule #6. If any member has a problem with another member being racist, disrespectful, or making any of these posts or claims, PM any of the MODS or ADMINS and they will be dealt with and put on a list. Second time around, they will be banned.

And lastly this is the link where you will find the forum rules and guidelines...

Your comment was not justified regardless of any smiley faces at the end of the post, so please don't try to use that at as a scape goat.

Re: Best Intake

So it's ok to go through life breaking whatever rules you want as long as you use a smiley face when your finished?

You've got to explain the lack of logic behind this...

Just by creating your profile you agreed to follow certain rules and to refrain from certain behaviors while using this internet forum. How do you justify breaking your agreement with G35driver? Last time I checked I didn't see a "smiley face" clause.

It's one thing to pick on a person in jest, it's another thing to tell someone to "eat a d!ck". That's just pathetic.

Re: Best Intake

Not meaning to interrupt, But I have a question regarding a K&N style drop in filter. Has anyone experienced any issues with a wet type drop in filter, in terms of the MAF sensor?

I also can't remember, is the K&N a wet type?

Just curious, sorry to interrupt.

Thanks for the help.
