Raising Idle, Changing Vortech Bypass Valve
Raising Idle, Changing Vortech Bypass Valve
So I'm planning on raising my idle to 1000RPM to stop the vortech low idle rattle. The other thing I'm sick of is the vortech bypass valve whistle. I was wondering what a good recommended upgrade would be to fix the whistle. HKS or greddy are the only ones I can seem to find.
I seem to be confused about the whole bypass, blowoff. I know the differences, but everyone points to the Greddy and HKS but on there website I'm not finding anything to match my 8psi bypass valve that vortech supplied.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Again
Geoff

I don't think anyone has a definitive answer on what causes the really loud whistle...my guess is its either the spring in the BPV being too light to keep the BPV completely open at low RPM or just the shape of the outlet.
Anyway, you just need to add a little resistance to air flow out of the BPV to make the noise go away. You can use the small filter everyone recommends, but there are cheaper alternatives. Binder got rid of his whistle by clamping a sock over the outlet of his BPV, while I just used a piece of tech flex. You just need something to disturb the air flow slightly while not preventing the release of excess boost.

My solution is in post #35 - still using it to this day.
You can check to see if this will work for you by putting your finger in front of the outlet of the BPV. If the whistle goes away, the above solutions should work for you. If not, dunno what to tell you bro...

Yup the finger trick works, tomorrow morning I'm going to work on it. See If I can get rid of the whistle. I still need to figure out my idle dilemma though ^^

I needed a new air filter for the supercharger, so I called up vortech. I asked if they had any filters for the bypass valve it was $15 so I figured it was worth a shot since I was already ordering the air filter.
Ill see what happens and get back
