G35 vs G35x motor

Hey guys im new here, just registered. I have a quick question that im sure someone can answer for me. Im looking at an 04 g35x right now that has a blown motor. I just want to know if there are any differences between a g35 motor and a g35x motor. I would assume its all the same and the difference would all be in the drivetrain but it couldnt hurt to ask. Im sure it will be much easier to source a regular g35 motor. Thanks

IIRC there might be additional bosses (mounts) on AWD VQ blocks for the transfer case there are several variants of the VQ block i.e. FWD, RWD, AWD

Im not worried about the mounts cause i can just transfer them over from the old motor. I just wanted to make sure the blocks themselves arent different and will accept the awd mounts.

IDK this is what I was told by others I trust maybe some pics of the different blocks would help. The transfer case on this car mounts on pass side of trans so maybe thats where the difference is ? Where are you sourcing your parts from ? There are plenty of AWD blocks here http://www.car-part.com/

Well the regular rwd motor i found was on craigslist and its a really good price. Im probably just gonna resell the car if i buy it so i would be trying to rebuild it as cheaply as possible. Well not cheap as in skimp but you know. It needs a motor, radiator, and tires. Maybe ill try calling the nissan dealer and see if they know. I cant imagine the motor itself being different, only the mounts.

don't forget as you are sourcing the engine that there are 2 g35 motors, the vq35de that was in all 03-04 models then vq35de rev-up in the 05-up manual transmission coupes and sedans-should be the same in the AWD too. .

All X's are automatics I have an 05x and I know it does not have the rev-up not sure about the 06's though.

If you find out let us know I am planning an engine rebuild as well being @ 190k mi
and this info would be helpful / here are some threads from 350z not exactly what were discussing but shows there are different variations in VQ blocks

on a side note I always thought it was funny that in the oil change DIY the oil filter on RWD's are sideways and mines faces forward...

Silver g35 6spd my 3.5 vq35de lowered currently blown motor....
Has anyone found anything out about this? I just blew the motor in my 2005 infiniti g35 6spd mt and i just got a motor that came out of a 2004 g35X and so far it looks like the heads are different. My motor has 4 cam sensors. 2 per head. On the g35X block i only see one per head. Will the car still run right??

All G35X 04'-06' are VQ35DE non revrup (only 1 sensor per head). The only difference in the engine is that it has a AWD oil pan set that can be removed and a RWD pan set installed. You can also use the VQ35DE from the FX35 if you need a non revup engine. If you need a REVUP good luck they are getting hard to find but you can use a non revup short block engine and bolt on your revup heads, cams, and oil pump if you are hard up for a solution.

Coupe 6MT Premium RAS
The rev-up came in the 2005-2006 6MT sedan, 2005-2007 6MT coupe, 2006 350Z 6MT and 2005 350Z 35'th anniversary edition 6MT.

Engine differences, the heads are completely different, same with the cam adjusters, engine wiring harness, ECM, etc. However the only real difference for the LONG BLOCK is the oil pump.

Here's a picture for how to tell the difference between the two engines.
