weird overheating issue* ideas ? help?
here's my problem, i just got home a little while ago from a friends house- i started driving home and started to hear loud squeaking from my belts in the engine, paid no mind at first until i got closer to home, i peered down at my gauges to see my engine was getting real close to overheating, made it home, popped the hood and found the hose that goes into the radiator had popped off leaking coolant in the engine bay- which was probably making the belts squeak , and made the engine overheat- i put the hose back onto the part it came off of, poured some coolant back in the resevoir- started to car to see if would begin to overheat again and the gauge stayed in the middle- started to drive it around the neighborhood and the gauge started to rise again, slowly but it started to rise- now it's dark outside and i'm going to wait until the morning to get a better look at the engine- so i'm looking for any suggestions or ideas before i start buying any parts- i've read already about thermostats/ water pumps/ hoses/ bleeding- is there anything else i should look for or check first? any suggestions will be appreciated thanks!
since the squeeking started first it is possible that belts were slipping on water pump causing rise in temp then blowing hose off....see if belts are all chewed up and replace. if they look good it is possible then that the water blowing on them causing slippage. possiblity there would be stuck shut thermostat.
belts are good and still tight- checked all around and couldn't find anything broken/chewed/missing- still wondering why that hose popped off - i did notice when the hose popped off my resevoir tank was completely empty, would that have dried up any coolant in the radiator? i didn't have a lot last night to put in to cycle through the radiator so not sure if i just need coolant to recirculate through

OP you must properly bleed the cooling system whenever you have a loss of fluid in the system, your problem is being caused by air in the system. Its pretty tricky to bleed a VQ, but search around there should be a lot of info.
Goodluck!
