Yeah, Mobil 1 is not PAO based except for the 0w-40. Unfortunate that people don't know that...
If you really want true synthetic off the shelf, get the European Formula Castrol Syntec 0w-30. Not sure if Mobil 1 0w-40 is available on the shelf.

The oils that screensaver mentioned are great to use, almost any oil will do the job on a stock g35 when changed frequently.

But for the original poster, 5w-30 is fine, and 0w-30 is fine also if you're going w/ the German Castrol.

the 0W-XX oils from any brand will contain more synthetic properties.

Royal Purple does not work well in our VQ's it costs way too much for mediocre UOA's

Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil Platinum are great oils for the VQ

OP 5W-30 is fine, if your motor is consuming some oil you can try thicker oil.

Op where in Hayward u at? I think in the pic that looks like near garin park if so then I have seen ur car around cuz I live on fairway park oh btw 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic is what I use and it doesn't give me any problems at all so it shouldn't give u any problems even at 70+k unless u got the oc problem I would suggest u get that checked out by the dealership or use thicker oil.

Id stay away from Pensoil and Castrol "synthetics"

Right now autozone has a mobile 1 special going on until the 7th.. something like $30 for mobil 1 oil and filter
Don't know where you are getting your info but:

Royal Purple does not work well with our engines.

People have success with Amsoil SSO, Mobil1 0w-40 (not 5w-30), Pennsoil Platinum, and Castrol Syntec 0w-30.

I use Castrol Syntec 0w-30 in my 08 G35.

Pretty sure M1 0w-40 is PAO based. Not sure about M1 5w-40.

I have not read about oils in a while. I recently switched to Amsoil 0w30 oil. I wont ever recommend Pennsoil to anyone and Castrol Syntec is not a true synthetic.

I highly doubt it matters for us if we are using a true synthetic or not.

Castol Syntec 0w30 is a true synthetic... It's the only one out of the line though.

I'm switching to amsoil signature series 5w30 with their ea 15k filter next change. Also went to their site and signed up for a preferred customer for 10 bucks and got their gear oil for my MT, differential, and transfer case. It's a pretty slick deal only having to change your oil every year or 15k miles (severe service). Also did this on the wife's altima (uses same filter and everything as the g, even the same crush gasket) yesterday. Because the crush gasket can only be had at a dealer, I think its worth getting a fumito valve so you don't have to replace it each time.

Might want to check out BITOG.

Folks have had good UOA's with Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 and Castrol Syntec 0w-30 in the G. I have a stash of Syntec 0w-30, Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30, and Edge 5w-30.

People with the G37s have had good UOA's with Pennzoil Ultra so I am going to give that oil a try. Thought I found a couple good UOA's with Edge but I can't find them right now.

Amsoil SSO seems to be a great oil but at that price it would be a waste for me as I am still under warranty.

Mobil1 0w-40 gives great UOAs as well but again, under warranty, don't want to have an engine failure and pull receipts showing I ran a heavier spec oil than recommended, even though many people have had great UOAs with M1 0w-40 in the G.

My bad, you are correct. I haven't used Mobil 1 in quite a while and just recently heard about the 0w-40. I'll edit my original post

I'm going to run Pennzoil Ultra Euro 5w-40 on my next change. I run a heavier weight since I put on a Vortech (have used Liqui Moly 5w-40 and Rotella T6 5w-40 since), if not for that I would just run 0w-30 euro syntec, has been great for me over the last 70,000 miles or so. I did a UOA on the oil that I put in right after the blower install which didn't really say much since the install could have affected different things, and unfortunately did not get a chance to UOA this last batch. But I'll send in the current batch (liqui moly 5w40) in, as well as the Pennzoil Ultra. In a car with no major work done (performance wise) I think you can easily run something like a syntec up to 7500 miles, and regular dino oil up to 3k

i like castrol syntec 5w-30 (not high mileage version or anything like that). I like the toughguard filters from FRAM that are in the silver box. Not the orange box ones. The oil consistently lasts me 7500 miles, but I am mostly just commuting and not running her hard at all.
If it was a civic I'd change it with the same setup at 10K intervals.

So I went through the g35 owner's manual and stated that it is recommend to use either 10w-30,40 depending on seasonal temperature. I live in Southen Cali and temperature at the time is approx. 80-90. For temperatures below 0ºF it is recommended to use 5w-30. Anything above 0ºF 10w-30, 40 is recommend.

hey all, sorry to revive the dead horse -

buuut, i'm at about 10k after the dealer installed a new longblock and have been running dino oils for about 1,500 - 3k between changes to flush out any particles from the new block.
Ready to switch to full "synthetics" and have made it through enough threads to make my head spin.

The car is back in South Florida (consistent 90 degree days) and wasnt sure of weights for my climate - also confused about the "0" weights of the german/euro oils? Would a weight that low have any benefit in a hot climate?

Not so worried about price, as i am longevity - and am leaning toward mobil1/amsoil so far...

thanks for input

mobil 1 is not a true synthetic.. it just has enough synthetic in it to call it a synthetic instead of a blend... true synthetics are brands like Motul, Amsoil might be as well.. they are a class above mobil1... i actually use castrol edge 5-40.. doesnt lose more than id say 1/4 quart between changes at 3k intervals... thinking of switching to amsoil though.. just did amsoil in my trans and diff and i could instantly tell a difference with the 1-2 shift... smoother when still cold now. cant wait to break it in

So to sum things up the best all around oil to use is amsoil, or Castrol edge? (Depending on setup of car an climate.)
