Whats the battery life on our cars? Havent drove or start my coupe for two weeks due to the rain here in SoCali. I tried to start it yesterday, that **** was completely DEAD Anyone know whats the life on it? And is it under warranty? I got my coupe back in May 2003...

 

This is way too soon for your car battery to die. Even just sitting two weeks, it's too soon. There are plenty of cars sitting dealer lots for a lot longer than that.

I'd definitely take it to the dealer to check out. Might be a bad alternator or a short somewhere.

 

ricky, you drained your battery at all? Unfortunately I drained my battery like 3 or 4 times COMPLETELY, to the point where interior dome lights would hardly come on.

Yeah I know... my fault completely...

anyways, after that, the thing wouldn't hold a charge for more than a couple of days... got me a yellow top instead.

If you never drained it like that though, yup that's odd.

 

Umm I went away for three weeks to see my family over the holidays and my car started right up when I got back! Even if you have a two year old battery this is way too soon for it to die...

 

if you go away for few weeks or months, i think it is best to disconnect the negative terminal~

yeah, it should definitely start up after only two weeks, i went three weeks with it covered up at the side of my house then took it out cause it was warm and it started right up.

maybe not weeks, but yeah months you should disconnect neg terminal. This just helps to reduce drain on it, and keeps it living some more. Of course you'll lose presets and time, but over months, who cares...

 

Usually, if I go away for 3 weeks or more, I disconnect the battery, or connect it to a computerized trickle charger. The more times you completely drain your battery, the faster it'll kill it. Lead-acid batteries work best if they maintain a certain voltage and aren't completely drained.

Some security systems, especially aftermarket ones can drain your battery fairly quickly.
