Makeshift Catch Can Install & Throttle Body Coolant Delete - Now 900rpm Idle

Hello,

I just recently installed a makeshift catch can and bypassed the throttle body coolant and now the car idles at 900 rpm.

I purchased an inline all purpose filter from Lowes. Initially, there was an air leak from the bottom of the catch can bowl so I added silicon to close off the air leak. The idle was reduced, close to stock, and the CEL went away. But the idle still stays around 900 rpm. I performed the throttle body reset procedures and do not see any change. I am certain the direction the filter is installed is correct. What could be the issue? Is this normal with the catch can install? I would like to hear your opinions. Thank you.

hmm does the throttle body coolant delete is the one from motordyne that uses the valve? based on my knowledge, i dont think idle has to do with coolant bypassed. Unless, you disassemble all the throttle body and you must be touching the butterfly and you messed it up, since our car uses electronic throttle body. However, did you change your pcv valve? Did you really seal completely the bottom of the can? I recommend to use rubber stopper and put some more silicone on the side. Oh, don't forgot to check the O-ring inside when you screwed in the can, make sure its there..

i put in a catch can b4 and the same thing happend to me. i double checked everything and i dident think i had a vacum leak. turns out the vacum hose on my intake dident have the clamp on it and fell off. so just check ever vacum hose and make sure you tighten your upper plenum down in the proper sequence if you removed it.

Thanks for your replies. The idle is steady. Sometimes the idle is at around 750rpm but it lingerings at 900rpm before dropping down. For the throttle body coolant mod, I disconnected the two lines from the TB and used a barb to connect the two lines together. I did not change the PVC and put liberate amt of silicon on the bottom of the bowl. The o-ring on top of the bowl is still there and I placed clamps on all the hoses. I will check for a vacuum leak and post outcome. Thank you!

Yeah, check all the connections you altered for vacuum leaks, even if it's stock pipes back on after disconnecting.

Also, at what point did you pipe in the catch can....

installing a catch can technically increases plenum volume because it's more un-metered air post MAF. You will need to do the idle relearn procedure, however I've never had luck with mine sticking. It would always go to ~600rpm, but once I start the car again, it's back to ~900rpm. I've heard that you have to get the idle reset done by the dealer.
