Build or replace???

ok i'm stuck in between a rock and a hard place... my question is would it be better from a mechanical & financial stand point to rebuild my engine or to purchase one with low mileage keep in mind that duty on car parts in The Bahamas is 65% (so $2,500 + shipping = "x" this is then multipled by 65%) which puts me well into the $5,000 mark..... allwork would be done by a me & my buddy so labour wouldn't be that costly any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

P.S.

nothing is wrong with the engine mechanically its just up there in miles and i was looking for a fresh start because i plan to keep this car for a very long time

If nothing is wrong why would you waste $5,000 . Wait until something goes wrong then replace it with a low mile used engine.
