[Help] cd009 installation in 03 coupe

Hi everyone been wanting to get a g35 for quite a few years now and the funds finally fell into place as of 2 weeks ago. I absolutely love the car but the one I bought is victim to the 3rd gear syncro issue common in 03. I found a complete cd009 with all supporting parts and 20,000 miles on it for 900 cash so I was really interested in swapping it in. Before I get started I have been searching this forum, my350z, and google extensively for the past week but can't seem to get what I'm looking for.

For the most part I think I understand the general process of the swap, but one of the main questions I was wondering is how much should I be expecting to pay a local shop if I decide not to do it myself? As well, is it worth it to attempt it myself because I've been told its a major PITA. I would like to be able to do it on my driveway with jack stands but I do have access to a lift if its necessary although I'd like to save the favor if possible. Other than that is there anything I should know or special tools I will need ( I intend on leaving the clutch)

Background wise I'm not new to working on cars, I know I'll be capable of doing this but I wanted some opinions first. Thanks again guys, loving the forums btw

Honestly that's what I was thinking, one shop quoted me 8 hours and I reemed them out over it and then they said it probably would be more like 5 in reality. I still don't buy it tho. One of the shops told me they're computer said 3.5 hours but they wanted $90 an hour for labour. What a joke.

Let me know when you get to the pivot ball or lining up the clutch/flywheel/bell housing. Don't forget the flywheel dowel mark. Enjoy and please take plenty of pics, band aids and beers.

I'm going to pick up the trans today after work, I have some other things that I'd like to do on the car first this weekend so I doubt I'll get to the installation. If I have never done it do you guys think its feasible to do it in one day on my driveway with jackstands? I don't want to start the process and then be screwed for getting to work on Monday. But when I start I'll be sure to use the camera plenty.

As well, thanks for the tip about the flywheel dowel. Definitely will be watching out for that.

Will you be having someone help you who is experienced and done a couple clutch jobs. I would not try to experiment your first time and expect the car to be up and running by monday. Between lining up everything, not damaging a sensor, bleeding the system, the weight of the tranny, only having jack stands and not enough height. I would let a professional do it and have a rent a car on order for monday. If you insist please make sure your health insurance and life policy are in place and you have 911 on speed dial.

What "system" are you bleeding? Just unbolt the slave there is nothing to bleed.

Most members go with the $775 deal for the first time which includes stainless steel slave line. One swapped out you will have to bleed the hydraulic system. Sometimes reverse bleeding and pushing the air up will speed up the process or using the wilwood coversion along with motive power bleeder.
