O/C showing at 89k miles, options?
O/C showing at 89k miles, rebuild? replace?
As the title suggests, my engine has started showing signs of oil consumption (2005 6MT Coupe). Has about 89k miles on it, what would you all do in my situation?
If I'm not mistaken, the usual cause for this has to do with the piston rings, so I could tear it down and rebuild it for boost, or just say screw it all and swap it for an LS2 or 2JZ.
This just became an issue about a month ago and hadn't given me problems on previous oil changes, but after the last 4.5k change I was down about a quart and a half. I haven't been driving it much since as I've been in the middle of other projects with it, but assuming I can someday afford any of the above options what would make the most sense financially? I'm of the mind that if I have to mess with the motor I may as well upgrade it.
Are there other options I haven't thought of?
Would really appreciate some input/feedback from you all, I'm good with suspensions and wiring and could probably figure out a lot of the engine work, but that's not been my focus so I'd probably have to pay for the work to be done to be safe and get it done right. I got quotes from CIN for swapping a stock LS2 and rebuilding/TT'ing the current block and they worked out to be relatively close in price. If there are other options or ideas I'm all ears.
And also to complicate matters I'm about to unemployed. I'll be medically retired from the Army in December and had planned on going back to school unless an amazingly awesome offer comes up out of the blue. So I'll have some money coming in, but won't really be gainfully employed for a while. I'll baby the car for the near future and begin saving where and when I can, but now it's time to start looking at future options. On the bright side, I do still have my old 4Runner to drive when needed, but of course my wife would rather I didn't continue to occupy the entire two car garage with the G.
Thanks guys.

Secondary, but related question: If I picked up a built long block that was set up for FI (lower compression) and installed it as is, how significant a power loss would there be if I installed it as is while saving for a forced induction setup down the road? I know I'd lose power but would it still be drivable?
I hadn't considered that at first but wondering if that'd be a decent temporary compromise.
