P0345 Engine Problem: VTC Sprocket or Pulley
Hello,
I recently rebuilt my engine but I'm having some very strange error codes. P0345 won't go away no matter what we've tried. The engine doesn't start, and I'm assuming it has to do with this.
I've followed the diagnostic testing outlined in the service manual. The electrical circuit and sensor are within spec. I've even gone so far as moving bank 1 sensor to bank 2 to check if the problem follows the sensor. It remained on bank 2. Yes I did clear the codes and it came back.
The latest theory I have is if the VTC sprocket is causing the timing to be bad giving a position error. I accidentally took the cover off bank 2's VTC sprocket when rebuilding the engine. The service manual says not to remove the bolts, so that was a big whoops.
Stealership wants $700 for a new one and no one wants to rebuild it. From looking at the drawings, this is a hydraulically driven sprocket not a magnetic/inductive. If I go aftermarket, I'm worried the higher aggression could cause the piston to collide with the valve.
So two parts:
A) Anyone confirm if the engine needs bank 2 CMP to start? The car has started intermittently. It seems to start when the battery has been unplugged for extended periods of time. The car did start and ran well once when we unplugged Bank 1 (attempting to disprove a false positive code - separate issue). It did, however, promptly shut it self off after coming to temp.
B) Does anyone have stock VTC sprocket(s) they can sell me?
