Rubbing/grinding Noise after Clutch and Flywheel install ('05 G35)
Replaced clutch and pressure plate with Exedy OE replacement kit and flywheel with LuK Dual Mass OE replacement. Had to bring the car back once because I couldn't shift into 5th or 6th, the mechanic did not align the metal shift plate properly.
Now I hear this rubbing/sputtering noise, especially in lower gears at low speeds. It varies in intensity and frequency, coming and going. But always disappears if I press the clutch pedal in. It sounds like something in the drivetrain is rubbing. But the car drives and feels perfect.
Any obvious reasons for this noise? First time I used this shop and I don't think they've ever done a clutch job on a G35 before...
(P.S. the tranny fluid was changed before the clutch job, mechanic said no extra fluid was needed during the change. Clutch fluid, clutch master and slave cylinders are all new, replaced by me.)

It could be your clutch fork and bearing not aligned right or going out (bearing). If they use the old ones then likely it the reason why it making the noise. Because you said when you press the clutch all the way in the noise go away. Usually when you install a new clutch kit you should break it in for about 1k miles.
Exedy kit came with new bearing I'm pretty sure. Clutch was broken in for 1k miles and now has over 2k on it. If something (clutch fork?) was not aligned right, would car still feel/drive fine?
Sounds like this could be a clutch disk misalignment problem since the noise only happens when the clutch is engaged. If it only happens when in gear and driving, it might be a flywheel problem (defective dampeners) ? or Perhaps a bent transmission input shaft? Where are you located anyways?
I am in CT. I brought car back to shop and of course it wasn't making the noise that day. They checked around and didn't see anything obvious, but to really figure this out they would have to drop the transmission and pull everything apart again right?
Noise comes and goes. It's like something is hitting something as it spins around. I asked the shop if something could be out of alignment and he said it's a straight forward install...

I'm going through the same thing a noise after have clutch & flywheel installed, when I push clutch to shift the noise stops.

There's a few other components under the vehicle that get removed / installed during a clutch replacement. It might be linkage, supports, etc that are making the noise. Try to get the vehicle up in the air on a lift and have someone run it through the gears while you are under it so the noise can be pinpointed.
Margaret you did have the throwout bearing replaced yes?
