That engine rattle ]:

Two problems with my G35 Coupe 6MT

1. This problem was persistent when I first bought the car, but I ignored it thinking it was normal... probably a bad idea.

On a cold start, when I put my car into gear (reverse or first) and slowly let go of the clutch it makes a screeching sound at the engagement point, if I push in the clutch all the way the noise will still be there and slowly get fainter. If I put it to neutral and let go of the clutch the noise goes away. People told me it's a bad throw-out bearing, but I'm not sure. The noise goes away when my clutch is warm, but it makes the noise every now and then even when the clutch is warm. Also happens when I push in the clutch and let go of it in neutral.

2. This problem was recent as the weather got colder. When I accelerate 1st, 2nd, and 3rd I hear a rattling sound from 2-3k revs. If I put it to neutral and rev, I can slightly hear the rattling. Rattle stops if I'm cruising or at high speeds and this could be that I can't hear the rattle anymore because of wind but I'm not sure. I searched the forums and found out it could be a heat shield exhaust. But this problem goes away once my oil temp is up. Also the noise is worse when shifting. So what could this be? Is it my clutch or engine?

So in conclusion, I'm wondering if problems 1 and 2 can be related meaning I need a new clutch or is there something wrong with my engine? And how much are clutch jobs?

bad throw out bearing. remove the middle of your exhaust, remove driveshaft, drop transmission, pop in new bearing. takes maybe 4 hours depending on your skill. might slap a new clutch on there while youre down there
