Manual/automatic will determine if revup or not for the 06...on top of that depending how old/new your car is there was a variation in ECU between those engines the one's put in later 04's...so give moar info.

I believe you can use the short block from any of them but you'll want to reuse your heads if you're not sure whether the engine you're replacing it with is a regular DE or RevUp. RevUp heads will not work with a non-revup car without a lot of work so if you're not sure what you're getting, stick with what you've got and just use the short block.

Also make sure your new/replacement engine came out of a rear wheel drive car. We can't use front drive VQs from, say, a Maxima. Significant differences between the two. It needs to be from a G35/350.

if you are doing a direct replacement you need to make sure its a non-rev vq35de

They are from all automatic G35 from 2003-2006
All 2003-2004 G35 sedans and coupes
All 2003-2005 350Z as well

Visually the easiest way to tell the diff between the non-rev and revup(2005-2006 6MT G35s) are the timing covers/cam covers. Make sure your motor you swap in looks like the NOV-REV pic below and not the REVUP.

Also, since you are 5AT, make sure you pull the pilot bearing if there is one in the motor - you won't get the trans in w/out removing it

NON-REV

REVUP

Copy/pasted my response from a previous thread...

I recently replaced my 04 35x engine as well due to OC issue (130K mile on it)

The following should work:
Automatic: 03-06 sedan. For coupe (you will have to retain the upper oil pan from your current engine)
Manual: 03-04 (05 and 06 manuals were rev-up and they won't work)

My replacement was from an '05 coupe (30k miles) and I had to retain the upper oil pan from my 04x

Hope this helps!!

you don't have to stick to your year..just make sure its a vq35de from a:
2003-2005 350z (any trans)
2003-2006 5AT(auto) trans G35
2003-2004 6MT(manual) trans G35

Those are the only requirements. Look at the pictures I posted. If the timing chain cover matches the first picture you are good to go.
