Motordyne Plenum Install Rough Idle

Installed a copper iso thermal spacer on a 04 g35 at. intake full exshaust

two night ago checked everything started it up. it has a rough idle. drives good, no hesitation, no power loss but gained it you can tell, just at a complete stop the rpms fluctuate from 800-200 up and down.

so last night we took it apart again, and re installed it again this time triple checking if its lined up and torqueing it correctly. and still the same thing.

then sprayed the engine bay with brake cleaner and checked for leaks there was a minimal leak by the throttle body so fixed that. and still same thing.

we tried doing the throttle re learn and still acts the same. but honestly i dont think the throttle relearn pedal dance was done correctly.

comments? please?

Try to correctly do the throttle pedal relearn dance before you start taking crap apart again. Would be the quickest and easiest way to see whether or not you have any actual problem or if it's just not thinking right.

hmm good call, ill re try that. the motordyne instructions say DO NOT TOUCH the flapper in throttle body.

im pretty sure i moved it even slightly when we were installing the copper throttle cooler. so it seems like the throttle should be off.

I dont think its your TB that is the problem - sounds like a vacuum problem

Most of the time this happens it is from 1) improper torque on the bolts therefore air is escaping or 2) improper torque pattern when torquing.

Make sure you check to make sure the bolts are tight.

make sure the little gasket around the motor oil fill location is not accidentally sandwiched between the spacer and plenum, that is a very common problem and it might be causing a leak depending on situation

Don't know if this will help, but when I went from my complete stock 04 coupe to a plenum spacer, rev-up airbox, and z-tube...I had to get a tune. I didn't even have an exhaust yet. Just those 3 things mentioned caused my ECU to throw a CEL and I was running lean on fuel. My air fuel ratio was way off. My idle was high and if I put my car in cruise, it would stutter and fluctuate rpms causing a really rough ride. Mine was fixed by getting a tune. I went with Osiris and my problems were fixed. Hope this helps.

got it done. it was the throttle body gasket that was not sitting correctly. i have a grounded throttle body with grounding wires, and so we were trying to get the wires to sit flush on the bolts and the throttle body gasket from the copper spacer slipped.

i couldnt figure it out took it to a tuner and they smoked the car and air came out from the throttle body. replaced tightened and all set.

car runs perfect. a little quieter now for some reason from the exhaust, less drone. i never did mind the drone but it is quieter.

a little bit of a pick but just going to get a uprev tune in a few weeks. and will be ready the cruise down to zdayz in may.
