Injen CAI install HELP!
Injen CAI install HELP!
hey guys, I just installed my Injen CAI on my coupe and decided to install it as the SHORT install without the extra tube by using the filter it came with for the long full install. when i turned on the car all was well, then i drove it and i have absolutely no acceleration and tends to stall when accelerated feels as if its missing a couple spark plugs. i have complete loss of power and all seems real wrong here. my question is, is this because to intall as a SHORT install (with the filter showing under the hood and bypassing the long tube) i need the optional filter they talk about? i used the one it came with for full install. I assume that the short install requires a diff type of filter with another device to prevent my problem? man i dont know but i better get this car runni9ng cause i got work tomorrow LOL! please help. i guess i will do the full intall now which i didnt really want to do. thanks and help! RX
thats exactly what it was. its funny cause before i posted, i told myself to make sure i triple check everything before looking like a fool. anyway just after i posted i went out pulled the plug out then reinserted and now it works fine. i guess i never pluged it in all the way although when i checked it it seemed to have been in all the way. anyway, thanks
so whats the diff between short CAI versus long CAI?
im keeping it short for now. dont feel like pulling out the jack and prying back the fender. RX

Hrmm interesting. I would think if they supply the system with those parts it should really be used as a whole for best performance. I didn't like the install on mine either, but didn't want to risk leaving stuff out for sake of convenience.

why is this so bad? all im doing is bypassing the long tube. let me post a pic.
the only reason i did this is to prevent water getting into my engine. let me take the pic and resize and i will post it. RX

it works great. furthermore, in the supplied instructions, they mention that if i want to convert to the short install (like i did) i would need an optional 3 inch filter. the one it comes with is 3.5 and it fits just fine no leaks or anything like that all tight. anyone else got input on this? thanks RX
I did the same exact thing. I didn't want to deal wit the long intake and that instalation so i kept it short. Its just a short ram instead of a cold air. The cold air will give you more horsepower, but if you don't want to deal with the instalation its fine.
The difference is the tuned length of the pipe. A "cold air intake" actually doesn't make most of the power from the colder air, but from the "harmonics" inside the pipe. It acts like an organ pipe and resonates at certain rpms, helping fill the manifold with air at a higher efficiency at those rpms. If you change the diameter and/or length it will change where the power gains are found in the powerband. Actually changing where the MAF sensor sits between the filter and the TB will affect power as well, but on many cars you're pretty limited on this particular change.
The longer pipe should help bring the peak gains down in the powerband and help give you more mid range power and you should also still see some extra top end power as well.
Hopefully that all makes sense, if not let me know and I'll try and explain it better.

thanks. and yes it makes sense but just an FYI the diffrent heights of organ pipes you see in churches dont actually change the sound (or pitch) its really just for looks.
so tell me. which is louder? short ram or cold air? running pretty good and loud now and definately feel the HP gain. thanks RX
