EVAP canister purge valve replacement

I cannot, for the life of me, get the replacement valve to "catch" on the canister... I'm at the 9:00 (ish) position, can feel it a bit, but it won't go in enough to seal and turn. Suggestions?

For what it's worth, the "grooves" or holes in the canister were a little dirty and out of whack. Dropped the canister, cleaned the grooves and the valve popped right in. Minus the half hour of frustration yesterday, dropping the entire canister only added 5 more minutes to an already easy fix.

Why are you trying to replace it?

p0455. Replaced gas cap, dropped this down and the valve was stuck open. About 20 miles after driving, it cleared the code... or at least turned off the SES.

Interesting. Thanks for the details. Never heard of this failing before.
