Probably need to have the rear differential seal replaced. It's a bit of a pain in the ***. You can check YouTube for an idea of what it'll generally take to give you an idea of whether or not you want to tackle it yourself.

I don't know why it would become a problem at 88k though. It might be worth having it checked out by a pro as it could be a symptom of something larger going on. Seals will go out over time, but I wouldn't expect it to happen that soon in the car's lifespan.

Are you sure its not coming from behind the diff? Check the rubber hose attached to the top of the diff and see where the end of it is. If its leaking from around the flange than the seal inside the front part needs to get replaced. Normally those seals don't go bad though.

Thanks I noticed the leak on the ground and really didn't have a good chance to pin point the exact location, just from what I could tell w/o raising the car. Infiniti dealer told me I should be replaced at 90k though. Cuz I asked what is recommended for mileage service.

There are two possibilities for the fluid.

1) The rear mounting point for the diff is in the subframe, the bushing at that point is filled with fluid and will leak when it goes bad. Its the round black thing:

2) There's also a rubber hosed attached to the top of the diff on the right side, its essentially there for overflow. So if someone put too much fluid in the diff it would definitely be coming out of that hose. Its a short hose so the end of it is easy to find because it doesn't go to anything.

More than likely the front seal where it connects to the driveshaft is not leaking.

My guess it's the bushing, that's a common issue as our cars approach 100K miles.

If you see oil dripping down the cover of the Diff then it is 99.99% surely going to be the diff subframe bushing. Its very common like mentioned above.

I would recommend getting the whiteline differential bushing set if you are going to replace them

I too have the same issue on my '04 with only 48k. Took it to the dealership today and they told me that my aftermarket exhaust is routed differently from the stock which is causing it to heat up the subframe bushing resulting in a leak. The told me that bushing cannot be purchased alone and that the whole part would need to be replaced. $1700 some for the repair. They did say that it only leaks when my exhaust gets hot enough to heat up the bushing. They suggested some sort of a heat shield to protect it from exhaust heat. That should be pretty easy but, if thats not the case, and it is a bad bushing, were they correct in telling me the bushing cannot be purchased separately? Seems a little odd to me. It was an Infiniti dealership. I have an extended warranty but they said since its not stock exhaust, it wouldn't be covered.

Has nothing to do with exhaust its becuase its a single point to mount the diff and when it flexs it will eventually crack and leak out the fluid.

Get an Spl and never worry about it again.

^ spl what? I have found z1 motorsports offers the set or just the single bushing? reviews, or best product out there? Best way to tackle this project? Example: dropping differential?

So does the diff. Fluid overflow into the subframe or what cuz I don't know how it carries the fluid or is it a different type of fluid you put in?

Yea, I'm pretty new to the car. Only had it 2 weeks so excuse my ignorance when I ask what an SPL is. Thanks for your help
