2003 G35 Sedan: After Market Starter Advice/Tip

Hi,

Just wanted to share my experience w/ changing my starter. So i was trying to save $$$ by purchasing an aftermarket starter (Autozone, O'Reilly, etc.). I was able to install & it is running fine for now

The problem i ran into was the after market thread was metric while the factory bolt was in standard. I ended up stripping the factory bolt initially & had to get another aftermarket starter. The dealership had to order the bolt & i needed it today.

So the best place to find the bolt is at Fastenal or Granger. You will need to buy in pack of 25 as they do not sell single. It was about $17 & you would need to buy washer ($6).

Just wanted to share if anyone is looking to buy aftermarket starter. Before installing, run the bolt through the starter outside of the car before installing to make sure it fit.

.....

I never had to change my starter bolts...

chances are you got a different one, or the housing was altered.. usually its remove, install, and ride out.

A car made in Japan with standard hardware? I haven't pulled my starter but I'm calling bull here. Once your dealership can get that bolt in stock I'd replace the crappy fastenal bolt with it.
