Viper Remote Start
#16
I worked in a professional shop that carried both Viper and Clifford. We dropped Clifford due to installation issues. That was a LONG time ago though. In the five years I installed Vipers I hardly ever had ANY issues with them. To say anything is a 'higher' standard is a stretch. The only product from them I don't really care for is the 790XV two way system. There are better systems out there. But, I would put a Viper one way 550esp (or 560XV) up against ANY Clifford one way sytem any day of the week.

I don't know what type of viper they are installing and what all features they are adding but $800 seems high. I mean for that kind of money you could do a clifford Avant Guard. Not sure they still make this alarm. When I was working at an audio store we did remote starts for as low as $249.
Actually its been almost five years since clifford was bought by DEI. I think DEI bought Clifford for the technology.

Oh...I guess I was mistaken...I thought they were bought out like 2 years ago. As far as putting a viper one way against a clifford one way...it could be a very close comparison.
I just know that being around car electronics more than performance, and having both a viper one way and two way and now a clifford one way, I preffer a clifford alarm system, as does many pro audio/alarm shops.
Just my opinion.

Yeah, I can honestly say my oppinion is very biased from installing Viper for so long. The shop I worked for dropped Clifford the first month I was there so I never installed any, but I heard a ton of nightmare issues with them. Vipers go in easy, they work great, and they last forever. The only real drawback is the lack of Aux channels. Other then that, I wouldn't ask for anything more.

Ebay would definately be the cheapest way to go. Most peole who sell alarms on Ebay arn't authorized sellers, so they sell them for cheaper then the manufacturer will allow. This, of course, comes with a price - no warranty. That is where the liability/customer service issue arises. If you can find someone to install it then that isn't a bad route to go....

the price i got includes the alarm bought from the installers... you should probably talk to a few respectable shops around your area to see if they'd install it for you and how much... then see how much you can get it for on ebay... its all about shopping around...
for me, a friend of mine made a deal with the owner cuz he wanted to get one too so for 2 of us it was $400... if we got a third person it would have been $350... just a matter of finding a good shop. They did a decent job on the install, didn't damage anything... only thing noticeable is the LED and responder antenna...
