Did I mess up my timing?

I had to change my water pump it was seizing, rusty, and making a terrible noise. I followed the FSM turned the engine clockwise. I got enough slack removed the tensioner and then I turned the crank counter clockwise and it immediately popped. I did take the bolts off the water pump first, so I wasn't sure if it was just breaking loose. I turned it counter clockwise slowly a few more times and got more slack to jack the pump out.

I haven't tried starting it; I still need to clean and replace the gaskets, oil, and coolant. But, I'm kind of scared to do it now. Any one have that happen to them when they attempted this repair?

Good question, If I remember, this motor is like the Ford 4.6, it uses oil pressure to tension the cam chains. If there is a lot of slack in the chain, you may have slipped a cog.

Did you watch my video on this job? Apparently it is very common for the cams to want to jump teeth. If you do the work around TDC it reduces the likelihood of the timing changing on you.

I did watch the video, but obviously wasn't paying very close attention about setting it to TDC first, lol. I'm going to just end up taking the front cover up over the next few days/weeks. My car is 7 years old with 128K on it anyway. So, it's probably a good idea to get in there and inspect the guides and lower oil pan anyway.
